What's the difference between bio-environmental and environmental engineering?

My school offers a bioengineering degree and then allows you to pick an emphasis track, the one in question being a bio-environmental emphasis track. When I look for jobs for bio environmental engineering and environmental engineering, bio-environmental always comes up associated with the air force, while environmental engineering does not. Why is this the case and if I go into the bio-environmental emphasis, can I apply as an environmental engineer?

Bio-environmental engineering is a rather small area of study (unlike environmental engineering), but Bioengineering has been around for a long time…It’s more similar to a biomedical engineering degree, with a focus on the environment (think pollution, chemical weapons, etc.). Environmental engineering is much more similar to Civil engineering (building things).

Here’s Rutger’s definition:

You need to look at the curriculum for Bio-environmental engineering at your school. Bioengineering covers a large field of study, hence why your school offers a track in Bio-environmental engineering.

I would “guess” it’s similar to an Environmental Engineering curriculum, but without some of the civil engineering or Environmental specific Engineering classes, and more biological classes. Look at the curriculum. i*
