This year, 1,834 transfers applied to UCLA's bizecon major while only 261 applied to the regular econ major. That's about 7x more bizecon applicants than regular econ applicants.

Why are there so many more? Is bizecon considered to be more prestigious than the other? Will it offer more job prospects? Are people simply more interested in an economics major with a little business thrown in?

Thanks.

Bus/Econ is the closest thing UCLA has to an undergrad business degree, mainly because of the name, but in reality, it is econ with accounting. Bus Econ is a very hard major to get into and stay in, I think they said something like 40% stick with it.

Plus, when you do bus/econ, you are already halfway to the accounting minor… something good for job prospects when reps from the big 4 and other big firms come around campus to recruit.

people who don’t get into the bizecon major become econ majors

econ is a lot shorter major, so most people who want to go into business prefer bizecon because they’ll end up feeling more prepared. if they don’t, majoring in econ with a minor or second major might be a better way to go. it just depends on what you wanna do after college.

Econ is a lot shorter, so it’s also good for people who want to double major. Biz-econ is what people who want to go into business do as it’s the closest to a business major UCLA has.
