What's the dumbest reason you applied/didn't apply to a school?

I applied to Vanderbilt because I liked their website!

My S applied to an Ivy because of a girl he had met during a trip. He has the qualifications for this school so it is not an extreme reach. The funny part is that I also applied to my alma mater because of a girl I had met and I had hardly even heard of the school before. I was accepted and only saw the girl once or twice after that.

I grew up in Virginia and wouldn't apply to U.Va. or William & Mary because I figured they were just state colleges so ANYONE could get in there!

I didn't apply to Middlebury because they needed a graded literary analysis essay included with the application, and I didn't have any. We didn't write any in HONORS English 11 (how pathetic is that?) and because I wanted to get my applications in early, I didn't have any from AP English 12 yet. But then I ended up sending all my applications in December...

i didn't apply to any school lower than UMICH on the USNWR, becuase i knew i could get in... i thought i had to beat my sister who went there.. so stupid

all the schools had to be accredited architecture schools.. so i basically had like 10 choices? maybe less...

-although i think USC is 1 under UMICH, but i still applied

ONE of the BIGGEST reasons i don't want to go to UMICH, a lot of kids from my school get in and go there and think it's the ---- (cool). when in reality, its def. not.... i really don't get the hype for umich.. and the kids at my school they get into umich, def don't deserve it

didn't apply to UNC because I'm a gigantic fan of their bball team, and since I doubt I would have gotten in, I didn't want to have a grudge against the school for rejecting me.

Dumbest mistake I've ever made. That, UCLA, and UVA are by far my dream schools, yet I only applied to UVA. This is something I'll regret for the rest of my life :(

New York reminds me of rude people and high crime rates.

NY has one of the lowest, if not the lowest crime rate for cities of over 1,000,000 people. Its crime rate is even lower than the national average. (city-data.com)

I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.

I didn't apply to UC Berkeley because I thought just the start of the application was horribly complicated (something to do with a PIN is all I remember).

I didn't apply to Wisconsin-Madison because this girl from my school (who is very nice) applied there, and I don't want to see anyone from my high school in college, I'm done with high school. (Dumb, dumb, dumb me.)

I didn't apply to UNC Chapel Hill because I figured I already had one application in the NC area (Duke). Also, I didn't want to do their essay questions. I filled out the whole form and got the teacher's recs and everything but dumped the whole app because of the essays. Again, stupid. :D

I didn't apply for Harvard and Princeton because I had a vision in my head of the admissions committee pulling out my file, laughing hysterically and posting it online for everyone to jeer at. LOL.

I (almost) didn't apply for Dartmouth because I saw the videos on it at theU.com and they freaked me out: the hardcore winters and the drinking. Granted, I've survived the coldest of cold winters before, so I really shouldn't have cared so much about that...

oh yea, I didnt apply to UNC Chapel Hill because like 4 years ago I read "Kiss the Girls" & it was set there...the killer guy would walk around the campus...and right then I said "uh-uh, never applying there"...
lol...

I didn't apply to MIT or CMU because I completely bombed the SAT's and was to lazy to ever take the SAT IIs.

Probably the worst mistake of my life... oh well. There's always grad school :).

Haven't applied yet, but I'm loving Bard mostly because I love the idea of Anna from Bard St. applying to Bard in Annadale-on-the-Hudson :]

i wound up not applying to college because i was scared of any type of rejection...so i didnt get rejected anywhere :)

kidding i'm a junior...and i will be applying to ND because its the best ever

i didnt apply to ucla or berkeley because my scores/ gpa cant compete with the other asians who are smarter

i applied to BC just because i only applied to 5 colleges and i really thought i needed an extra college. irony in this story is, im attending BC. I also didn't apply to georgetown because my college advisor persuaded me that georgetown didn't like the high school i attended. In the end, i probably would've gone to BC, but who knows?

Applied to NYU because application was free. Too bad it still costs 50k/yr to attend.

Didn't apply to Tufts because I hate the name....

Didn't apply to WUstL because Missouri sounds like "misery"....
Didn't apply to Columbia because it was utterly filthy when I visited....
Didn't apply to Drew because the admissions office looked like Norman Bates from Psycho's house....
Didn't apply to Penn because it is part 2 to my high school.....
Didn't apply to Vassar because in search of lunch, my dad and I encountered a store specializing in fairy clothing....

Applied to NYU because I had really delicious coffee in the neighborhood....
Applied to Yale because I am insane....
Applied to Boston College despite the fact that a nun working the desk glared at me for not knowing it was Holy Thursday....
Applied to Emory cause it looked pretty on Google Earth.....
Applied to Northwestern because I know a couple gorgeous guys who go there.....

Wow I was just ridiculously honest. There you have it.

i like your reasons fringey lol

Hahah I could probably think of some more truly ridiculous ones, and I will.

For instance, I applied to Brown because some current students took me out to lunch when I visitied... the real clincher was that the food was good.

I also didn't apply to Cornell because the name annoys me.

I visited Harvard for no reason at all except the fact that one of the libraries has my last name on it (not my family, I don't think) and I wanted to be really obnoxious in the tour group, telling them about it. Plus our plane didn't leave Boston for several hours and we had time to kill.

I applied for some UCs even though I didn't meet the A-G thingymajig requirements. 300 bucks down the drain.
