What's the dumbest reason you applied/didn't apply to a school?

Let's see.

Applied to UChicago because Ted O'Neill writes the best form letters ever, and their marketing hooked me. I carried Life of the Mind around with me for weeks, and still haven't let go of the original essay prompt sheet.
Applied to Barnard because women's college + NYC + Columbia seemed like a good idea at the time.
Applied to Vassar because Dad would like it if I went to Poughkeepsie, even though I think I'd hate it in Poughkeepsie. But I've never lived there, so who knows.
Applied to Binghamton because everybody's supposed to have a safety, even if they get accepted to their first choice. I guess it would have been arrogant not to, or something.
Applied to Bryn Mawr because I met a Mawrter through blogging online who convinced me to visit the school, at which time I promptly decided that it would have to be either UChicago or BMC because I absolutely must go to a school with Gothic revival architecture.

Didn't apply to Oberlin because I've spent enough time living in the middle of freaking nowhere.
Didn't apply to WUSTL because I interpreted each letter/booklet/kitchen sink they sent me a negative auspice as to how ridiculously desperate they are, and plus I knew a guy who lived in Missouri and he said I should never go there ever.
Didn't apply to Wellesley because it seemed too Ivy-like for me and I don't like Hilary Clinton.
Didn't apply to the Ivies because I'm not Wonderwoman with 500 ECs.

Didn't apply to any NYU, Columbia or Yale because they weren't on the common app. :)

Actually, NYU is on the common app. I used it. :]

Also, I almost didn't apply to Cornell because I didn't like the name Ithaca...it sounded backwoodsy

I didn't apply to Rice because my high school is like a feeder school to it
And I almost didn't apply to Duke because my cousin goes there; don't care for her much
Didn't apply to Pomona because I missed lunch when they came to visit; my counselor forced me to go and talk with them :(

And DEFINITELY didn't apply to Emory because the admissions officer who came to our school was stuck up and RUDE!

schools in California - back then, all the people I've met that were from CA or at least lived there were so flashy, superficial or/and had some weird points of views (mostly discriminatory) so it somehow got me a notion that almost all CA ppl are like that and didn't even want to think about applying to CA.

This makes me laugh. As someone from CA, I swear we are not all flashy and superficial although alot of us do seem to like flashy, superficial things.

The dumbest reason I ever applied to a college hmm...I applied to Harvard because my mom told/made me (it's a good school and all but I just don't see myself there for undergrad).

I applied to UCSD because I was afraid that I wouldn't get any scholarships from other colleges and needed to apply to a state school where the tuition would be more affordable.

I didn't apply to any schools in the Midwest because I don't like the Midwest and can't stand the thought of being land-locked and need a coast (although some of the schools on the East Coast I applied to are in states that technically don't have a coastline). One of my best friends tells me that I can't say I don't like the Midwest because I've never been there but I disagree.

sugangel...Chicago is a Midwest city that has one of the largest accessable coastlines in the country for a city of it's caliber....Lake Michigan is my favorite part of this city. :)

Didn't apply to:
- Simmons because they sent me a letter on bright yellow paper and for some reason that day I hated the color yellow
- Colgate because of the toothpaste thing
- College of Wooster because I didn't want to deal with any "did you just say rooster?" jokes
- Kenyon because there's a guy called Kenjon in my class
- USC because I could just never bring myself to shout "Go Trojans!"

I applied to:
- Fordham University because it is F.U.
- UBC just because it's in Canada. lol

And I almost didn't apply to Occidental (Oxy) because I didn't want to put up with any "oxymoron" or "accident" puns

yale is on the commonapp....

I KNOW HAHA! You are definitely missing out on cali. I love it here..... Trust me, i'm NOT tan. I'm not that superficial...haha. And I'm certainly not discriminatory....
anyway...

I never applied to Pratt Institute because I am terrified of Brooklyn.

i applied to lake forest college b/c they were giving out free applications.. i got accepted like 2 weeks later and was sent postcards for me to send out at lake forest. they offered me a pretty good scholarship too for out of state, the school was pretty nice and didn't seemed like they slacked...

still... i applied to the least competitive schools in my state just caz a friend applied for backup and i thought i might need it...

i also applied to umass-amherst caz someone told me they had a good theater program, though i wasn't really planning on theater too much!

i was so close to applying to whitman, but i didn't caz someone told me that liberal arts colleges prepare you for life while universities prepare you for a job. i guess i wanted a job more, but i still ended up in the liberal arts, but only at a university with liberal arts probably not as good as whitman's. totally wish i applied and went to whitman. :( .. oh yeah.. i think i didn't apply to whitman caz there's a whitman middle school in the city... lol. . it'd be weird.

haha, i also avoided applying to cal schools for the same reason... and avoided schools i didn't think i could afford... avoided all the ivy leagues and NYU... and only applied to RPI caz i had a feeling i'd get accepted... i actually never really wanted to go to any of the schools i applied.. including the one i attend. i probably wasn't even ready for college. haha.

i avoided all ivy leagues too.
most east coast schools because east coast kids seem snobby..i know that's a stereotype :S

why does everyone think californians are flashy and superficial and beachy. it snowed at my house yesterday, so it is totally not true! lmao

That's more the SoCal stereotype than the CA one. The Bay Area, for example, has a much different rep.

Yeahhh, definitely...ahaha
I like the bay way more than southern cal.

I'm a Santa Barbara type of guy myself, but yeah San Francisco is incredible.

Ahh, agreed.

I lied. I like the Central Coast in general, and San Francisco, that's it. haha

I happen to like SoCal people. :P

I didnt apply to claremont cuz i didnt wanna do anymore essays
i didnt apply to boston c cuz i couldnt figure out how to pay the fee online and i was too lazy to snail mail it
i applied to ucsd cuz i got 4 uc apps free with my fee waiver

I refused to apply to any school in Pennsylvania, because I decided I hated it there. I've been there, and it was fine, so I don't know why. Then I ended up applying to Dickinson as my safety, but I'll never go there because of the name.

I didn't apply to Colgate because of the toothpaste thing.
I didn't apply to Tufts because my boyfriend's ex goes there.
I applied to Yale because I wanted an Ivy and Rory from Gilmore girls went there.
I also know someone who didn't apply to Duke because the website sucks. He regrets it now. haha

Oh, and I didn't apply to Georgetown because they weren't on the common app and don't look at the writing section of the SAT.

Wow, Colgate seriously needs to do some market research on its name.

lol...seriously...i thought i was the only one who thought that!

I first became interested in Brown in 8th grade because Summer from The OC went there and Seth followed her, and I LOVED The OC (but never wanted to go there b/c "people from cali are superficial" :-P ) and when she went there the campus looked all liberal and delicious :)
