I know that I just posted 2 thread in the last 10 minutes, but I got something ticking in me. So far I passedall my Regents with 80's marks (I don't know, but I can't get excellent marks on Regents) while having a general average of 91. This year, I have 5 Regents to take this year and an SAT, and I just gotta ask: What's the point? If I apply to a school in Pennsulvania, or in Massachuses, do they even bother to look at my Regents? Even in a school in New York, how valuable is it to have a Advanced Regents Diploma? Is it worth lowering your average 10 or even 20 points for? I just gotta ask.

I'm just asking this since New York and California are the only 2 states in the country that take these damned tests anyway.

Could someone at least look at this thread?:(

Yeah. I want to know this also. Let's say someone started taking a foreign language in the Sophomore year of HS. They will take the language regents at the end of their Senior year. How will colleges even see if they have the Advanced Regents Diploma anyway?

.....Please? With fairy dust sugar on top? No? Yes? Maybe? wii?

2nd Language is only 3 years. And most people finish all their regents January Senior year.

Okay, here's a good example: My school is so messed up, that me trying to say how far behind and what the school expects from is unbelievable.
My Math B teacher was going so slow this year, that we only did 80 pages worth of material within 6 months. Out of the blue, he gets a better job in Florida and leaves the school. Now we get a woman who is the wife of our English teacher, has the heaviest Russian accent I've ever heard in my life, and the school expects us to take the Math B Regent in June. No matter what I'm not taking it in June. I'd rather take it in July, especially when it coincides with the English Regent (it's on the same day), it's the next day after my 1st cousin's wedding. I could take the Math B Regent, but if I'm even lucky enough to pass, I'll get a 65 at best even with the curve they give. Now, what is better for me:
Take the test and get an Advance Regents and have to suffer with a 65 in my transcript, or just not take the test not have the "super duper" diploma but have a nice 80's - 90's average?

Come on. Someone please reply? wii-wii?

You mean an 80-90 average for your regents exams? or your GPA?

Advanced Regents Diploma=tougher courseload=more motivated student

It's kind of the same as doing those honors/AP classes. It would be better to get A's in them, but don't take the easy way out and just take the minimum requirements because it shows you don't enjoy learning.

The Regents are not part of your GPA? In all honesty, I don't know my own GPA. (My school is to stupid to keep track of that)

But if you don't go to a college in NY, do they even look at the Regents Diploma? And, in your opinion, how valuable is having a ARD vs. regular Regents Diploma? (And I know only 33% of HS students in NY who graduate only get the ARD. That's why I'm asking)

New York and California have the highest amount of applicants to almost all of the competitive colleges. Therefore, these colleges (regardless of their location) must be familiar with what an advanced regents diploma means and I think it will definiteily be an advantage on your applcation.

Oh yeah. I forgot to mention this one thing: my school has NO AP courses whatsoever:(

I'm going to make another wii bump here.

I'm a NYC mom and here is my take on it: I honestly don't think the advanced regents diploma matters. It is possible to get your graduation requirements for a regular regents diploma and take AP classes, but it is harder to go for the advanced diploma with AP classes, because scheduling is so often an issue. We chose for my daughter to go for the AP classes. She will probably get the advanced regents diploma because she will finish Math B in senior year, but she will also have some AP classes and some excellent science classes. The colleges, however, will not know about the advanced regents diploma when they decide on her applications. That's fine with us because she is not looking at any schools in New YOrk (except the CUNY Teachers Academy) and out of state schools would much rather see APs and honor classes. The regents exams frequently stink because they're so poorly written and administered. It is beyond outrageous that they are so frequently thrown out after the fact. You should look at your transcript in a much broader context than just the advanced regents diploma because it might be a hindrance to you.

i failed math b by 3 pointd so i couldnt get my advanced regents diploma yet i still got into nyu

that advanced regents diploma is so retarded. It means nothing.

What was your Average to get into NYU? And did you take any AP's?

my average is 93.. im taking 2 aps senior year.. english nd spanish

Just asking. How can you get into NYU when you havn't even started senior year...or have I misread your post? Also, have you gotten any non-need-based-aid? (i.e for acedemics)
