Oh, wow...that stinks about the non need-blind status of "way-out-of-towners..." But if that's the way it is, that's the way it is, and at any rate, you shouldn't not apply for fin-aid unless you're sure you can get by without it. On the positive side, you're RD, so unlike someone who applied ED, you don't have the weight of a mandatory committment on your shoulders. I wish you the best, though...good luck, and I hope to see you in, say, 6 months...?

Oh ok. Thanx, if u please have any statistics that i could know about to let me know of my chances, please forward them.

If I got into Penn I really wouldn't care what others thought... I'd be too euphoric to care

May I suggest the ever-popular "Not Penn State" shirt. Now available at Penn bookstore and www.notpennstate.com. ;-)

I have to agree with Reese on this one. You shouldn't give a dam what others think of your school. I'm from Colorado, and very few people have heard of penn. People who feel like they have to add "Ivy League" to their vocabularies are just insecure.

Last year I was very tempted to do something similar, but I realized that people resent dicks who try to shove their schools down others' throats. It's not hard to figure out... since when has anyone liked a pretentious guy?

This is when it helps just to swallow your pride. Be nice. When people ask where you're going to school, tell them Upenn. That's all they have to hear. If they've confused, go ahead and tell them about it, but never say Ivy League. That's just being rude.

Trust me, modesty is worthwhile.

First of all, none of us are serious on here. If anyone on these boards are taking everything literally, you all need to slow down a little bit. We are just having fun with it. There's no way people walk around and tell people they are from an Ivy League school. If they do, they are very unsophisticated.

Thomas,

You would think so, but this stupid discussion comes up every single year on CC. It doesn't stop on CC either. I can assure you that you will hear about it during NSO next fall. It's a shame, but it happens.

You're... disappointed... that you got... rejected from UPenn... (twitch)

by the way, rejection is me... :)

Wharton...I can't believe it's such a hot-button topic for many. If people are so concerned with others knowing what Penn is, I wonder why they even apply to Penn in the first place? Doesn't everyone understand that people of prominence in this world knows what Penn truly is? I don't mean that in a pretentious way - all I'm saying is that just because the average, ordinary "Joe" or "Jane" doesn't know what Penn is, that still doesn't deduct the University of Pennsylvania's prestige/quality. In fact, it may make Penn hold even greater prestige since not everyone knows what it really is. Because in the minds of the people that matter in this world, they know you chose Penn because of the quality, not because it's some fancy brand-name. That alone makes you even more sophisticated.

We feel your pain...DD struggles with the name alot...this summer she was at a rodeo with an out of town friend from school and a guy asked them where they went to college...they said Penn and he asked where it was located...they said "Philadelpha" and he said.."I thought Philadelphia was a state" Go figure!

I keep things in perspective. Being from Texas, everyone back home assumes Texas A&M and University of Texas are Ivy League schools. Now, try and put that into the perspective...(haha).

Too bad Vince Young is leaving school early. Now, Texas has to depend on freshmen quarterbacks, taking a page out of the Florida State playbook.
