I got accepted ED to MCS as a Math major. I'm planning to do the computational finance program. If I can't get into comp. finance, however, I'll probably major in math.

Does anyone know what the workload is like for comp. finance and math majors?

It’s pretty demanding. It’s hard to say how you’ll do without knowing you, but expect very challenging classes, much harder math than you’ve ever had before. There are kids here who are so smart that they just seem to “get it,” but for most, it’s a lot of work. Comp. Fin. is very competitive to get into. They accept relatively few kids, and many try. Even once you’re in, it’s one of the hardest majors at CMU.

The Math Department is great. There are lots of very smart people (students and faculty) and graduates do well. Try for Comp. Fin., but expect a challenge.

STOP. It is what it is and asking these questions won’t actually change anything, will it? Just go and try your best. Both at academics and enjoying college.

@CMUCompFinance, no offense, but are you a ■■■■■? Who’s FutureQuant/Narain? I don’t know why you think I’m him/her, but I’m not; honestly. If you’re angry at FutureQuant, I’d suggest you tell him (or her) instead.

I’m not angry at anyone. I’m just pointing out that you’re taking this far too seriously.

EDIT:By the way, if you really weren’t him, then how would you understand that I was implying that you are the same person? Nothing in the original post implies that unless you were him.

Well, you referred to three people (myself, FutureQuant, and Narain) who were asking questions. I’m the only one who’s asked a question on this thread so I assumed you were using all 3 names to refer to me. Also, the way you listed the names seemed like you were implying that they were the same person for dramatic effect. I dunno, maybe I’m watching too many cop shows, but I thought you were listing aliases like some detective when he confronts a potential criminal.

In any case, you’re right; I’m over-thinking both your post and my math major. I’m just bored as hell right now because I have so much free time and so little to do with it. I was simply trying to spark a discussion because the CMU forum is so dead right now.
