keezy, get real and grow up.

and i’ll call out racism wherever i see it.

thanks for saying i can leave though, as if i didn’t have that option from the get go.

OBVIOUSLY.

OBVIOUSLY.

Sorry, affirmative action in ANY form is deplorable and should not be employed in a PUBLIC school’s admissions process.

dude, who cares? racism is everywhere, sadly. and it takes more than your calling out or whatever you doing here to fix things. This is irrelevent now. I hope UF just admit qualified students with stellar stats and students who show potential to succeed even though they may not have the 4.0 gpa or 1300 sat score. Thats what I expressed and I think UF is trying to do that. I’m not sure what your expression is. I dont care to know either. There’s nothing more to say, but get a life, its not worth getting all upset. Just set up a meeting with the Admission committee and express your concerns with them =) peace.

I don’t believe what UF is doing is racism. A few years back, UF was called out on racism because of the lack of minorities. And I am against racism, so I appreciate UF’s effort to bring more potential and qualified applicants of color.

well, UF’s job is to recruit the brightest students from Florida and keep them in the state. For the most part, they do a good job at that. Trust me, UF’s students are arguably the best in the state. However, like most universities and colleges, UF is pressured to appear “diverse.” Thus, they bend to the pressure and admit quite a few minorities, who otherwise would not have been accepted, for the sake of being “diverse,” in order to supposedly right the wrongs of the past. It’s BS if you ask me. But that’s the way it is in the world of academia.

Simply accept top 10% students.
Top 10% trumps everything else, SAT’s, GPA’s, Essays etc.
Probably an easily defensible position for them.

However, not sure this gets you the “most” qualified students going to UF.

But I guess when you have to go thru 28,000 applications you try to simplify and it cuts down on arguments.

By the way this strategy actually gets you more points in the USNWR rankings.

yet i am in the top 24.8% and 2 other kids arent top 10% and they got in (form my school)

keezy… you’re against racism? yet you make racist comments and hold racist beliefs?

makes a lot of sense.

what happened to finding out about ***uxup with late app acceptance? There a billion threads on that holistic crap.

^I’m not sure why late applicants are getting accepted when UF made it seem like there’s not enough room for applicants who made the deadline.

teb0w… get a life, you to stuck on little things. I want UF to be diverse, with races, beliefs, cultures, and etc. Don’t you agree? Don’t get stuck on this UF admissions talk, it’s probably stressing you out.

on a better note, any more late applicants who got accepted to UF?

I applaud UF for actually looking at other admission factors, besides SAT/ACT scores. They want students that actually have something to them, instead of just test taking skills. I am glad to see that UF will take the time to examine each student based on the overall application. Those who were not accepted may lack the personality that UF is after. But what do I know? I was accepted, and I don’t even plan to attend.

I heard that everyone that applied after the Nov 1 deadline and was accepted, was accepted for Spring 2010. I also heard that if your appeal is accepted after a rejection your going to get Spring 2010 too.

This is not true. I applied after that nov 1st deadline and got into the fall semester.

“I applaud UF for actually looking at other admission factors, besides SAT/ACT scores. They want students that actually have something to them, instead of just test taking skills.”

I wonder if you are just saying that because it could possible have a trickle down effect on the quality of FSU & UCF incoming classes?

No SSobick, I don’t care to compare schools. I just have my preference of a school that is a perfect fit for me.
I said that because I thought UF just looked at scores, and didn’t really care about the students overall, but they proved me wrong. That was all that I was saying.

Relax SSobick, I do not doubt that UF is an amazing school, it is just not for me.

It’s pretty obvious that those 1300 + SAT scorers who were not top 10% will end up at FSU, UCF, Miami or some other private school thus raising their incomming SAT scores.

We will see what this top 10% strategy does to UF’s SAT scores.

Tough to tell since this blog represents a miniscule sampling of the incomming class.

What do you mean by UF’s top 10% strategy? Are you talking about class rank? If so, that is odd for UF to do that.

Right. He’s saying that students in the top 10 percent of their respective class have a better chance of being admitted than students who may have better stats but are outside their 10 percent.

Per each schools 08/09 Common Data Set (info schools must provide to the government in a specified form)
Top 10% students: (State of Florida schools)

UF- 76% top 10%
UM- 66% top 10%
UCF- 35% top 10%
FSU- 31% top 10%
USF- 25% top 10%

FIU suprised me with 42% top 10%.

Note all the California schools are 99% top 10% students.
That is what keeps their USNWR rankings high.

Anyhow, as I’ve stated before there are more USNWR “points” in a to 10% ranking than in a high SAT score.

If you are a top 10% student at your school you have an excellent chance to get into UF.
