this thread is for all columbia ed'ers, especially rejects and deferees....Just wanted to know what happened to all the ed'ers...board's too quiet without them all... where did u people all apply to in the end? for deferees, what are you doing if anything vis a vis columbia besides sending midyears??

as for me, im an ed deferee... ended up applying to 15 other (mostly good) schools now i'm done and can start to relax.. I got in to U Michigan so far which i'm starting to think is a really good school ,maybe better than columbia for me... and for columbia i wouldnt mind writing some sort of letter but i have no idea what to say and have no great accomplishements to present... any ideas??

I got deferred from Columbia. About a week later I found out that I got into UChicago EA, which will make the next few months until April bareable. And UChicago is a great school- I feel honored to have been accepted. But I'm still going to have to wait until I hear back from all my other schools until I make my final decision.

Columbia still remains my first choice. I'm not giving up on it. I got my Modern European History teacher who loves me to write a supplemental rec for me, and she's a Columbia Teachers' College graduate. Don't know if that'll help at all, and this will be my second supplelemental rec and I've heard that Columbia doesn't really like those.

I also applied to Princeton, Vassar, Penn, Northwestern, and Tufts. So that makes seven schools for me.

About what you should do: I would suggest that you call the admissions office, see if you could speak with your regional admissions person, and ask them what you can do. Mine told me exactly what in my application was an "issue", so you might get lucky like I did. I'm going to write a letter to her addressing that area of my app, because she said that the adcom wanted to hear more.

You could also try e-mail. The reason I called was because I had met her at my school when she came to visit, and when I spoke to her she gave me her number encouraging me to call her.

It's up to you what you do, though. I wouldn't sit back and do nada if you wanna get in. They wanna know that you still wanna go there, and that it's still your top choice.

i'm living abroad is there a regional admissions person for different countries? the thing is i really havent done much in term of extracuricular achievments or wards etc.. that i could mention in a letter and just writing "i love columbia, ur still my first choice etc.." i think they see right through it so im tempted to let my grades speak for themselves as they are not bad for mid years.. what do u think?

Well, it couldn't hurt just to e-mail them or contact them. Usually most admissions offices only have one overseas counselor, but I'm not positive about Columbia.

They still need to know that Columbia's your first choice. Try and think of anything, just anything, that you could say that they'd like to hear. If you don't do anything you might not get in.
