We were excited to learn yesterday that my daughter was accepted to Va Tech for its M.Arch program but we are concerned that Tech's DI ranking has been on a steady decline. Is there a problem with the program? Does anyone have any insight into the current state of architecture at Va Tech? Thanks!!

I don’t think you have anything to worry about in regard to how strong the arch programs at VT are. Undergrad is consistently in the top 5 nationally and the program is very well respected. Many of the professors teach the upper level ugs and grad students, so they have to be doing something right. The only thing I can think of for the decline in the DI M. Arch rank is maybe bc the school offers a B. Arch program students went that route bc of the economy. Could its grad M. Arch program total numbers have declined and affected the rankings somewhat due to there being less M. Arch VT kids out in the workplace?

I know they also had their Dean, Scott Poole, leave last year for the Univ. of Tennessee, so maybe they are in somewhat of a transition. The school has won several top notch awards of late from the AIA, both as an arch school and for some of its educators. Internationally its Solar Decathlon entries always rate very highly. I wouldn’t hesitate to send my kid to its grad program, but I am biased. I have a senior in CAUS right now in LArch. It has been very good to him. Hope this helps somewhat. Maybe others with more insight can help, too. Good luck to her!

Thanks KandKsmom!
