<p>i think this index was made a few years back before the writing section was on the SAT</p>
<p>and really the index is kind of pointless, anyway; the colleges are going to look at more than just your test scores</p>
<p>I think it's truly used primarily for athletes. That's the only context in which I've heard it discussed. It's easier for admissions to say "yes" to an athlete with a high AI than a low one. Coaches are limited in the number of recruits they can take in the lower bands.</p>
