Looks like I'll be starting next fall as IE (transfer). Just wanting to get an idea about what kind of GPA you guys are getting. I'm hearing horror stories about how class average grades in certain classes can be as low as 60%. I can't imagine a school being cool with most students in a class failing. I hope this is exaggerated, but is it based on some truth? How hard do you have to work to get an A in most of your Engineering / Math classes? Any classes where no amount of work would have gotten you an A?

No I’ve absolutely had a few classes where the average raw score was a 60% so it’s not a myth. However, the professors went into the courses with the intention of normalizing the grades at the end. You’ll find that the average grade in a course (with a few exceptions) tends to hover very close to the average GPA of the students taking that course. For instance, if a particular section has an average GPA of 2.6, the average course grade will end up being close to a 2.6. How hard do you have to work? If you go to lecture and recitation, do all of the homework honestly, and study for a few days before the test, most students find they do quite well at Tech.

Ok, that sounds a little better. Anyone else have anything to add?

The average GPA for the college of engineering at Tech is around a 3.0.

Have a 3.5+ GPA and you are doing pretty well (subjective statement but whatever).

You can look at the GPA for specific classes/Professors here: [SGA Course Critique | Welcome to Course Critique!](http://www.sga.gatech.edu/critique/)

Most engineering courses I have taken sit around a 2.8 GPA[url=http://www.sga.gatech.edu/critique/Search.php?generalSearch=Green,%20Itzhak], but there are of course exceptions/url
