What is the average GPA at GA Tech?

Ya, how strong is the student body??

I'm guessing the average GPA is between a 2.0 and 3.0.

How good is that compared to gatech's counterparts?

dang..2-3.0..are you serious??

Despite the "low" GPA, people recognize the rigorous courses that GaTech offers. I've heard that a 3.1 or so will get you in the "Dean's List" since it's so hard to get.

3.0's are a lot more common than people make them out to be, it's not too hard, you just have to make it to class everyday and do the homework, etc (sounds easy, but once you get here it gets hard to wake up for that 9am or when hanging out with friends sounds like a better idea than doing that calc homework that isn't required anyway). Just budget your time and everything will be straight. The majority of gpa's are usually around 2.0-3.0 though, including mine :) Don't get discouraged though...many employers understand where we go to school.

yeah...but I'm planning on going to med school, and a 2-3.0 GPA isn't going to cut it

If you try hard and are very motivated, is it still very hard to get ur gpa over 3.6 and 3.7? Do exams and tests get curved at gatech? Can you still a manage such a gpa and still be part of activities related to math and science, like research and clubs, and other extracurriculars.
What type of rewards do you get for a rocketing gpa?? Just curious..How about scholarships?? for international students? and recognition and high-paying jobs for sure...

A's are very possible but you will have to work.

Yes and some teachers will drop the lowest test.

Yes

Don't know the last ones...

i heard the 60% of kids lose Hope scholarship (b/c of GPA) by sophmore yr...of course i dont know the truth in that stat...just thought i would share...

just google for the statistics. they're on the gatech site somewhere, and if i remember correctly its like ~50 percent.

Unless you're confident in your abilities, Tech isn't the best place to use to get into med school. It's do-able, but the kids that do it are very bright.

I'm in a pretty active social fraternity and we have one or two engineering majors with close to 4.0 majors (3rd years too). So it's possible, but they work work work

How about for dental school?

Can a 3.0 GPA from gatech makes me competitive for Business Graduate school ( assume I have great working experience and essay).

I had a 92 in my CS class, and it got curved DOWN to a B. I'm ever so ****ed!

Why would it get curved down? :O

2.86 in 2002

In contrast, the kiddies at Georgia State get...

Hey guys I found some facts woo.

Medical and Law Schools know about Tech's reputation... and they will take a lower GPA out of Tech... but you probably need at least a 3.4 for either, perhaps slightly higher for Med School. Call the Office of Pre-Professional Studies and ask them your questions. I called them a few years ago and they were very helpful. I can't guarantee that everyone there will be so helpful, but they should be willing to tell you what GPA's students accepted to Med & Law School (applying from Tech) have had recently. I just looked it up on the GA Tech web site, and that Office doesn't seem to exist any longer. The school actually has a pre-law program now... and theoretically a pre-med advisor, so call the advisor. If you can't find the advisor, call the Bio Dept and ask for the number.

I had also called a Med School (Public in my home state), and although they were pretty vague they said that the admissions dept. kept a 'ranked' listing of all universities according to caliber of school. They do know it's harder to get a higher GPA out of Tech and that students with these slightly lower GPA's are successful in Med School.

Good Luck on your research.
