Didn't see another thread similar to this, but I was just curious to what everyone's safety/ low match schools is going to be (particularly rising seniors, but anyone can chime in). Play nice, and no teasing eachothers school selections. (Yes this is different than the where do you want to go to school thread, since most people generally don't >want< to go to their safeties, hence the name safety school.)

My safeties are going to be East Carolina and UNC-Asheville, with my low matches being Mississippi State and Oklahoma

There is a much larger number of non-exceptionals that apply to usc opposed to other low acceptance schools like ivies, for example. With my ec’s and scores im well above the 75th percentile and I think I will be fine. Although I do see where you are coming from.

I would consider any instate, public school as a safety. Maybe SUNY Plattsburgh or SUNY Oswego. These days, even the schools of the SUNY system are highly selective. Albany, Binghamton, Stony Brook and Geneseo are like the Harvard’s of public schools in NY!

My safety school is my local community college (I love spending time with my family and at my church so there’s a chance I’ll end up picking this no matter what, though right now I think I’m going to move away). I’m hoping to find a good Christian college a bit farther away from home though!

I feel like the generalization that any in state public school being a safety isn’t a good one. I live in north carolina, UNC CH is hardly a safety to anyone. UVA is a pretty lofty “safety” for people too. UC berkely and UCLA probably shouldn’t be classified as safeties either

I think saying which schools schould and shouldn’t be safety schools is a bit presumptuous if one doesn’t have a clear idea of the applicants’ credentials.

True, i just didn’t expect that people co sider top 30 schools safeties. I dont care about credentials, i just wanted an idea of where people are applying at the lower end of their spectrum.

For some people the thought of a school outside even the top ten is terrifying. The idea of being surrounded by mediocrity makes “safety schools” a rough subject. Usually, like in my case, it is just narcissism preventing the student from considering anything they believe is “inferior.”

A good safety school should be a school you’d love to attend despite it being a safety school.
My two safeties are Earlham and Oberlin but I love them both.

Right now I’m thinking of both Cal Polys as my safeties. Both are very good schools that I wouldn’t mind attending (especially SLO) and I think I could get into both pretty easily.
