When a $1 increase in EFC costs you $3,000

Try out UW-Madison's financial aid calculator using an EFC of $12,000 and then an EFC of $12,001 for a Wisconsin resident and look at the 'Gift Aid' section for the Madison Initiative Grant amount.

Not sure what your point is. Such programs are just that–computer programs with set limits.Luckily real humans do the real analysis.

My point is that gift aid is zero when EFC changes from $12,000 to $12,001 (a cliff’ rather than a phaseout) I would be surprised if a real human changes this result.

You might want to reread what it says on that link–estimate etc etc .

I understand what you are saying – it is an estimate.

My kids received, to the dollar, the exact amounts estimated by using the financial aid calculator on UW’s website for each year of undergrad at UW.

Others’ results may vary.
