The UNC Admissions blog said Jan. 15. They had something like 15,000 EA apps, so they do not intend to be "early" this year. Don't know about the online notification, but for some reason I think they do post online. Maybe someone from last year could advise?

Online first - "For those of you who applied for our first deadline, you can expect to see your decisions posted online no later than January 15 and your official letters to arrive soon after"- from the UNC admissions blog online at UNC Admissions Blog

does anyone know how many of the 15,000 EA applicants are accepted??

Admissions decisions are posted online. They usually post on Fridays, so either the 9th, 15th, or 16th are the probable dates you guys are looking at. Ummmmm....I think around 3,500 will be accepted EA (plus or minus a few hundred). They seem to accept about half of the class EA and the other half RD.

How many of these 3500ish do you think will be from OOS?

should be about ~500 (15-20%)

It's usually around 20%. I think there is a law in NC requiring at least 80% of the students to be in-state. So, I would guess that about 20% are from OOS.

The legislature mandates that OOS is capped at 18%. As stated on other posts, they found a loophole several years ago that allows students on full scholarships to count as in state both for admissions percentages and tuition consideration. This has increased the real OOS percentage to between 18 and 20 percent depending on the OOS yield for the Morehead and Robertson as well as recruited athletes. Last year it was around 19 percent as I recall which would be less than 700 students. If you subtract recruited athletes, Moreheads and Robertsons you are realistically probably looking at 500-600 other spots max and the yield is somewhere around 50 % so roughly 1000-1200 are admitted. When you consider that the OOS applicant pool is historically in excess of 12,000 (this year probably higher based on much higher EA numbers) it is easier to understand how difficult OOS admissions really are. Just looking at raw numbers, it is about as difficult as admission to Yale.

Last year we found out on January 4th. The decision was posted online. We didn't receive an email or anything, but I checked and there was a link to the decision. Good Luck!

The 4th?

This is VERY doubtful, but you don't think there's a slight chance the decisions could be released today do you? I mean, it's only 2 days earlier than last year AND it's a Friday...

according to the admissions blog it's gonna be closer to the 15th

I'm with you on that one, Carolinaheel09. I'm getting anxious. But do you think it's a possibility, what with the info on the admissions blog?
