When are payments due?

My son has been given loans, grants, and $1500 for a work study. First payments are do in Oct. So if his grants and loans dont cover his tuition, meals, housing etc. Then he will have to pay the remainder in Oct? Wether is has gotten a work study or not? Is work study due in advance?

Work Study is paid to the student like any other job. You get paid on a schedule (usually every 1 or 2 weeks) depending on the number of hours you have worked. If the student does not work all of the hours they do not earn all of the work study award.

If his grants and loans do not cover his tuition meals, housing, fees, he will have to pay the difference.

Right, but when do they expect payment? For unpaid fees, not covered by loans and grants. My older son went to college a couple years ago. He was also granted a WS. But couldnt find one, ended up working at Sams Club. But they wanted him to pay the amount he would have gotten from the WS up front. We thought then it was because he didnt get a WS job. But I need to know if ds#2 will have to pay next month. if and even if he gets a WS job.
I am pretty sure his loans and grants dont cover all his tuition, housing etc. I am having him check on it.

What college is it?

I understand now. That is probably a question that can probably be best answered by the financial aid office at the specific school.

Thanks, my son is supposed to go talk to them TY

One of my daughters goes to a school where the bill is due a week before classes start. The other goes to a school where the payment is due 3 weeks after the semester starts. All schools are different. Yes, unless you make other arrangements (payment plan, late payment) you will be expected to pay the remainder before you earn your work study.

OK Ty

Workstudy is money that you need to earn. Don’t count it in as it will never come in advance even if you find a position for that.

Thanks, I wish they wouldn’t count it in. When you get your loans/grant info. If its need based I assumed it wouldn’t be due upfront.
