When do CSU admissions come out?

I applied to SJSU, SFSU, Fresno State, and CSULA.

In the fall semester, I got an F in my AP Calc AB class but I won’t be taking that class in the spring semester. I am taking an a-g course which is creative writing. Will the college be looking at that grade as a bad thing? I got pretty bad grades in my freshman and sophomore year but I improved a lot in my junior year with A’s and B’s.

GPA: 3.0
SAT: 1070
Community Service Hours: 150+ hrs
Part of an academy at my school.
Major: Pre-nursing

I have been waiting for a while and I am afraid I won’t get accepted. Does anybody with the same major as I got accepted yet?

The general rule for the CSU’s is that you need to pass all a-g courses in your Senior year with a C or higher to maintain your provisional acceptance. Each CSU is different but since you applied to an impacted major, “Pre-Nursing” at all of these schools, you should have a backup plan since that F will be a huge issue. I would have your counselor contact all the schools and see what options you have at this point.

I think you should look into your local community college and consider taking the Nursing school pre-req courses there and transfer in 2 years if you can maintain good grades.

Best of luck.

I have not seen any admission decisions for Nursing majors at any of the schools listed as of yet, although other majors have had acceptances at SFSU, CSULA and Fresno State. SJSU decisions should be out in March.

@Gumbymom If I do consider going to community college, what courses do you recommend me to take for my pre-req?

@Gumbymom Also, my alternative choice was Business Admin focusing on Accounting Info Systems which the impaction is 2900. My other choice was being an accountant. Nursing is 4150 which is really impacted. If I don’t get into the nursing program, do you think I will get my alternative choice?

@emilay45: According to SJSU’s website, they will consider your alternate major. If however you really want to pursue Nursing, then I would look at some of your local community colleges nursing programs. I am not sure which CC’s are local for you, but if you do a search it should list the Pre-Nursing courses needed for transfer.

Also here is a list of RN programs in CA http://www.rn.ca.gov/education/rnprograms.shtml#adn

@Gumbymom I just got accepted to SFSU  Also, if I get accepted to SJSU, which college do you prefer because I have no clue. Thank you.

If you start at a community college, you can use http://www.assist.org to find out what courses the nursing (or other) major at your target UCs/CSUs want for major preparation.

Did you get into Pre-Nursing at SFSU or another major?

I think sfsu is better for nursing. Stick with sfsu.

@Gumbymom I actually got into SFSU with Pre-Nursing.

I would concur and say SFSU would be the better choice at this point. Are they aware of your bad grade in Calc?

@Gumbymom Probably not because my other grades were pretty decent but I will do better this semester.

@Gumbymom But yeah, I heard it is really complicated to take classes at SJSU.

Another complication: SFSU has limited and expensive housing. Is your housing guaranteed?

(My daughter lives in SF and pays $2500 a month for a shared 1 bedroom.)

@aunt bea I actually don’t need to pay for housing. I live in North San Jose and my grandma lives in SF so I will be living with her.

You need to find out if the F will be an issue for any the schools you applied. If you wait until final transcripts are due in July and they rescind you, then your only other option will be community college. I would take of this now.
Apply for SFSU housing as soon as possible.

@Gumbymom So do you want me to call the admissions asap and ask them? Right now, I have 3 A’s and 3 B’s. I will still try to get more A’s and less B’s this semester which I hope will help out.

Thank you for your help guys. I am actually planning to transfer to USF to get my master’s degree in nursing after I get my bachelor’s since I want to become a pediatric nurse practitioner. I heard their program is really good and I am looking forward to it.

@emilay45: If I were in your shoes, I would call all the CSU’s I applied and make sure the F your received in AP Calc will affect your admission decision.

Each CSU has their own policy in regards to provisional admission requirements. Since Pre-Nursing/Nursing is highly impacted, an F grade Senior year could be a huge issue for some of the CSU’s, so better to find out now than later when you have no options.

Sorry, Meant to say “make sure the F you received in AP Calc will NOT effect your admission decision”
