CSU admittance PLEASE HELP

Hi guys, I’m a senior in my high school and I want to go to SFSU to major in pre-nursing, but I have one thing that’s blocking me and that’s the D I got in Algebra 2 during my second semester. For the math section of the a-g I’ve already completed Algebra 1 and Geometry. I’m retaking Algebra 2 at a nearby college, but by the time that I turn in my transcript, they won’t be able to see that I’m retaking Algebra 2. All they’ll see is, “In progress” my gpa is 2.92 and my sat score is 1250. Do you think I have to go to community college? Please help me. I need to mentally prepare myself if I do.

nursing is brutally competitive at all the CSUs. I am sorry to say, a 3ish GPA won’t get you into any of them.

As for Algebra 2, a C or better in the college course should check the Math a-g box,

SF will probably take you undeclared, but making your way into the Nursing program will be tough. Apply broadly so you have a few options come May. Maybe Channel Islands or East Bay. I’d apply to at least one Undeclared. After you are accepted, you can visit the campus and understand what it takes to make your way into Nursing and see if you are up for that.
good luck

The SF State nursing major is an impacted program, meaning more qualifed students apply than can be accommodated in the program. Those who are not admitted are encouraged to pursue an alternate major and then reapply as a second baccalaureate or entry level master’s student.

Freshmen cannot be admitted to San Francisco State University as nursing majors. They instead can be admitted as Pre-Nursing or to an alternate major. Please note:

THE PRE-NURSING DESIGNATION DOES NOT GUARANTEE ADMISSION INTO THE NURSING MAJOR

I agree with @NCalRent, your chances are slim to none to get into the Pre-Nursing major at SFSU and probably all the CSU’s due to impaction.

I would consider an alternate major get your BA/BS and do a post bac program or community college, take the Nursing pre-req’s and then transfer into a Nursing program.
