I was born with cerbral palsey brought on by a right brain bleed afecting my left side. I want to know if any of the colleges on my list (HSC, ASU, MCC) have programs or scholarships or just "general help" for me. I have not told any of the colleges of this should I? When? I sending my apps in the 1st. week of Jan (I think). or do i wait until i've been acceppted?

I don't think you will find much in the way of scholarships - though you can always ask -- but you can contact the Office of Disability Services for each college to find out exactly what sort of services and assistance they can offer. You don't have to wait until you apply -- though right now the calendar works against you. (Its possible that the college offices you need to contact may be closed for winter break). You also will definitely want to let the housing office know of your disability and how it affects you, so they can assign housing accordingly.

thanks. anyone else want to wiegh in?

HSC has learning disability office http://www.hsc.edu/academics/success/LDPolicy.html

buti wouldn't qualify CP as a "learning disability"

The Department of Vocational Rehabilitation in our state often helps student pay for college if they have physical disabilities. Have you tried the DVR in your state?

I'm want to go to HSC, which is OOS for me (I'm in AZ)

Texas has a rehab commision that helps students attend college

Wabash, almost all colleges have special offices that assist students with disabilities...and, yes, CP is a disability. It is VERY important for you to call admissions and ask to be referred to these offices at each of your colleges to sort out what services are offered and to see if they can meet your needs. Yes, you should let the admissions offices know at the time of your application, if not before, as a matter-of-fact, not asking for pity, but for information. The colleges may not have scholarships for these students, but there is often money available through local, regional, or national associations for CP. Try searching their websites or places like fastweb.com to see what you can come up with. Good luck!
