When do rolling admissions decisions come out?

I know you have a better chance of getting in if you apply early in a rolling admissions college. I was wondering if the college gives you their decision right after reviewing your application or later at a typical date of Mid-December to Late-March?

I’ve seen some come out in a few weeks and others a few months. We received ours ED’s in Dec and Jan. Received some EA’s in Oct and Nov.

It depends on each school, and when you apply. With our flagship public university, my kids applied in late August, and heard back within a couple of weeks. As you get closer to the application deadlines, I imagine that applications will begin to pile up, and the length of time required to process them will increase.

Alright, thanks for the response!

The earlier the better - but you have to be ready. Meaning - Pitt has essays - so if you’re not ready, then don’t apply prematurely. Get your stuff done. But a school like Pitt - get it in by end October for best chance at merit - plus you need a strong ACT although they are test optional (for merit).

An Alabama is a 10 minute application - and you hear back from days later to weeks later.

An Arizona is rolling - but has a late deadline and auto merit so when you apply isn’t a huge deal - although some programs like honors will have a tighter deadline.

I think that the whole point of rolling admissions is that decisions come out over a range of time. You will hear whenever you hear.

Some (probably not all) rolling decision universities will let you know more quickly if you are a very easy obvious acceptance – way over the stats needed to get accepted. Even this however is not always the case. One daughter applied to a university that was probably too much of a safety and heard back in less that two weeks. However, at the same time she applied to another rolling decision university where we expected an acceptance relatively quickly, and she didn’t hear back for perhaps a month longer than we expected it to take. When we finally heard back she was accepted with a very good merit scholarship.

You just never know how long it will take. Your suggestion of “Mid-December to Late-March” covers a rather wide time range, but is probably correct.

Rolling admissions practices vary, but Iowa, Iowa State, Miss St, Alabama have already begun accepting 2022 students. Pitt will start in end of September, maybe October. What rolling admission schools are you looking at?

Was just generally curious. I haven’t even applied yet.
Was looking for Berea College’s admission. It’s written on their website that they’ll open their applications in September. I will probably apply by September-end if everything goes right.

I’m sure it varies by school, and maybe by the strength of your application.

Iirc, my D17 heard back in about two weeks from both Pitt and Purdue (back when they did rolling), by late October, and it made the entire season much easier.

Pitt doesn’t have an essay!

Sorry. Meant Honors and short essay. Bit I’ve come to learn they may have dropped the short essays this year. They don’t seem to be on the website. Last year they were there and while optional were recommended.
