When Do Special Status Applicants Receive an Admission Decision?

My D received the select status app in June and it made me incredibly stressed given that junior year was not even finished yet. We called guidance and asked about speeding up the process because D must apply immediately to be competitive. I thought she would get a response in 3 weeks as well until she called Pitt and was told August. Anyway, I have relaxed since then. D will send in the application this summer but the rest of the materials will be sent when school begins in September. I don’t believe for a minute that September /October is too late. She needs to get some merit to attend so the package must be complete.

@hailtopitt1787‌ I’ll message you, thank you. I told D to hold off on daily trips (sprints) to the mailbox for the time being. Maybe by the time my 3rd goes through this process I’ll have a better grasp on it. And BTW, Grandma was visiting Pittsburgh for 2 Pirates games last week and always spends time walking around campus. D told her to stay away from the admissions building haha.

@pineview lol that would be a first! Grandma coming into the Admissions office to check on the status of her granddaughter’s application.

That would be mortifying at best. But try explaining to the Grandma’s across the world there are 30K other special grandkids applying to Pitt also. :relaxed:

The app status says “your application is complete”. Is there nothing else I can do but wait for an email (do we get emails?) or letter of acceptance? Do they email you with any information about specifically when to wait for?

Does anyone know the exact date when Pitt began reviewing the completed applications that were sent in this year? I heard they were hoping to begin reviewing sometime during the week of August 4th but I wasn’t sure.

@wwsjl23 the decision comes via US mail, not email. @chelsey123 we just began reviewing complete applications. If either of you would like me to check on where your application is in the pipeline, please PM me.

@hailtopitt1787 - I hate to imagine how many PMs you are now going to get!!

@dadinator no worries:) that is what I’m here for!

got mine today and got in :slight_smile: best of luck to all #H2PITT

Congratulations!!! I’m so nervously waiting for my response haha :)

**still - not “so”

I got an email this week asking for my Fall SATs. I’ve seen that others who applied early have already been accepted. So they have clearly already reviewed applications and sent notifications.

Quarkee55,
Thanks for the info. Do you mind posting your stats for reference?

@Quarkee55‌
Did you receive only the email when they requested new test scores or something in the mail too? I thought they were sending all decisions via US mail first.

Chelsey, did you indicate on your application that you would be retaking the SAT/ACT? Maybe they will wait for the new scores before sending an admissions decision.

@mommdc‌
Yes, I did. Even if they are waiting for new scores, others have indicated that they will send you something in the mail/ email notifying you that they are waiting until later on to make a decision.

I wish my D could finish her app (already submitted back in July) but she hasn’t even had a chance to meet with her GC to give her the transcript request.
And apparently the recommend letters - teachers won’t do it until they go through the session in Lit class where they work through their college app stuff or something.

@hailtopitt1787‌ are the recommendation letters helpful for merit if they come in after the admit decision but before Nov 1? What if the teacher sends it after Nov 1?

@hailtopitt1787‌
I was wondering if all admission decisions are going to be sent through US mail or email. I think that previously, it was stated that all decisions were coming through US mail, but I have seen some people saying that they received an email requesting new test scores in the fall.

Daughter got her ‘special status’ acceptance Friday 8/29.
