When Do the Financial Aid Packages Arrive?

I was fortunate enough to be accepted ED to penn, and I was just wondering when the financial aid packages come in. I certainly don't want to write a billion scholarship essays for nothing. Thanks.

From what I read they are supposed to be mailed out by Dec.14th, however you can check it online from the decision site. I am a little concerned however, since my online worksheet says that I am not to receive any financial aid from Penn.

Can anyone who has been admitted in past years let me know if you received your financial aid package with your decision, or if it arrived later?

You can view what you were awarded on the ED website…log in > click My Penn Plan Online (on the right hand side) > continue (on the bottom) > continue. It should say what financial aid you get!

I didn’t receive any either. Do you think it’s because we applied ED? Penn’s site says that 93% of financial aid applicants get aid that are in my income bracket.

I’m not exactly sure what the case if about FA. I know almost for a fact that I should be receiving at least some aid, so I’m assuming they didn’t post it. Perhaps the wait until they get our parents/guardians 2009 tax forms or the FAFSA?

They posted mine, but I’m not sure how it can be right because my best friend is in a lower income bracket than I am but Penn is offering me a lot more than him.

were you recruited? I know it’s not supposed to matter but…

Nope, but I actually just asked my mom about this and she said that she included a note under additional info telling them that my dad has been out of work for the past 7 months, so i guess they must have taken that into consideration even though it was in 2009.

Do any of you feel that you didn’t get the aid you deserved?

I’m calling Penn Monday, this is kind of ridiculous and ruined the sweetness of being accepted for me.

yeah, I think I’m going to call too…maybe we should wait till after we get the stuff in the mail? Maybe the website’s just messed up.

I’m just going to call them on monday, and maybe e-mail them tonight. Waiting to see it in print probably makes more sense, but this is serious money we’re dealing with here, so I think the more proactive we be about contacting them and getting our issues resolved the better.

And Penn says no student loans? But my financial plan or whatever on the site says that I should take a student loan o.O

^mine says that too for the work study part

my financial aid is horrible too! i barely got any aid. this is simply too much. im definitely calling the office for a review. my friend who got in two years ago said he called the office again and they upped his aid so im hoping this will happen for me as well.

Hey guys, are you guys looking at Financial Aid Eligibility section of the Your Financial Aid Eligibility on the Penn Plan Online Website (the fifth line down on that page).
If so, is 31k (18.4k coming from Penn Grant) a lot [I don’t really care if you guys are going to say it depends on family income, I know… just saying is it a lot in just comparing financial aid)

^^^

[A Look at the Facts, Comparing Penn’s Cost](http://www.sfs.upenn.edu/paying/paying-pro-look-at-the-facts.htm)

That shows that the overall average is just over what you were given

Don’t worry too much about Financial Aid. They really are incredible here! It came down to the money for my decision and Penn really pulled through. They care about their students’ financial situations.

And please know that if you don’t get the aid package that you want - you can always go and talk with them. They might not be able to give you more money, but it doesn’t hurt to try!

jasongt,

I am more concerned that Penn has received all of my documents for financial aid and have given me a plan at all since on the MyPennPortal page it says that I am not receiving any aid period. There is a section about a direct federal loan for $5,500 but that’s it, nothing about a Penn Grant or anything else =/

I’m in the same boat as you, Zagruss…maybe it hasn’t been updated for a lot of people? I’m hoping for the best

when I log onto PennPlan and I click continue, all I get is this message:

“Thank You!
Please remember to logout”

is that happening to anyone else?

For everyone who hasn’t found out their FA eligibility yet, I strongly urge you to call Student Financial Services as soon as possible. I just got in contact with them, and it turns out that my aid simply wasn’t posted online because of server traffic on their site at the time.

If you cannot call during their hours, I believe that all FA packages will be mailed out, and I was told that I should receive mine by Thursday or Friday.

Class of 2014 here we come :)

magnito,

This is what it says online at the portal, hopefully you can get your issue resolved:
