When do we find out about becoming NM Finalists?

Canmom found out at noon my dd is a finalist! Can breathe now. Congrats to your son.

Congratulations to you, too, Ppof4! It was an amazing 24 hours. Yesterday DS and his partner won their district in CX Debate and are bound for state competition next month. They won six straight rounds, and he had perfect speaker points throughout. We're pretty excited today!

Congrats. My dd goes to tapps(uil) on 13th for district competition. She won state ranking last year in 2 competitions, I believe. I think she's doing math and creative writing. She thought about science but not too keen on the physics part. What she is really liking is her college level microbiology course. She said if she decides in a short while to major in science instead of liberal arts she may choose A&M (crossing fingers as they offered her a the presidential scholarship on top of nmf money and its only an hour away).

Ppof4, I hope she does decide to go to A&M and stay closer to home! Science majors should have more opportunities upon graduation than liberal arts, too.

DS will also compete in Informative Speaking, Number Sense, Calculator and Mathematics next month. CX Debate has it's own time frame earlier than the other academic UIL subjects for some reason. Apparently it was the first UIL event in TX. He made regionals last year in Inf. Speaking and Number Sense, but competition was at N. TX the day of the prom, so guess where his mind was? He could not have competed through the day's speech schedule and still made prom (his first date).

I casually mentioned to the principal that scheduling prom on the UIL Regionals date didn't show much confidence that our students would advance to that level. He agreed and said they would not conflict this year, and they do not.

Go figure, Now she is thinking about Baylor also, if she decides to be a science major. I had dealt with the fact that she would go to OU, and so have not been bugging her. It seems to have given her room to reconsider, since it would be her decision now wherever she chooses. Good job with talking to your son's principal. I wish him the best. Aren't kids great? Today I had one call from infirmary at A&M and the other from dr.'s office at ETBU, my other 2 daughters. You would think they were in rooms next to each other at home passing the flu. No they are 5 hours apart.

Ppof4, Baylor's new science building is incredible! That would be great, too!

Long distance worry... I'm not looking forward to it! I hope the girls get well soon.

Thanks, and yes I loved the Baylor Science bldg. I have a B.S. in Nursing and love science myself.

I found out today that I made finalist!!

Congratulations calguy!

Ppof4, it's a good thing you have some time before you have to turn in that first choice college!

Thanks for reminding me, she needs to go from first choice OU to undecided until she's certain.
