2010applicant, I think you are exactly right.

I’m guessing the email campaign was to assuage fears since the actual letters are running a little late. Perhaps they have realized that people need time to make plans to attend Scholars day, especially those who are OOS and require more advance notice.

We found that everyone in the Visitor’s Center was terrific when we were planning our trip for Scholar’s day back when D was a HS senior. We flew in Friday night for the Saturday program and made plans to stay through the weekend, departing late Monday. This gave us the chance to see the campus on a “normal” day with classes in session…most campuses are pretty dead on Saturdays and Sundays unless it’s football season and USC was no exception…it also allowed D to attend a few real classes on Monday to get a feel for things. This was all set up for us by the Visitor’s center. We also then had Sunday to ourselves to explore Columbia a bit.

For those coming a long distance and who have never been on campus before I highly recommend doing it this way if you can swing the time to do it.

If anyone has any questions please feel free to PM me.

Daughter got her McKissick letter in the mail today, so she will definitely be a Gamecock next year. Now waiting on Capstone letters. Good luck to all.

^ congrats! quick mail you got there! nothing here yet…

Son got his offer today. Definitely in addition to Life scholarship.

How is South Carolina able to offer most out of state students in state tuition? All of the kids from my school get the scholarship with in state tuitiion. Some kids I’m very surprised about it. I just wonder how financially they are able to do it?

MomLive and GamecockDad -
had they received the email yesterday saying scholarships were being sent? trying to figure if they were sent in bunches of some sort

caity -
what state are you in?
it seems like everyone from our state (Illinois) who applies get the OOS waiver, but then only those with high enough stats apply, and it is because of the chance of the waiver.
USC has a reputation (not only of excellence) but as a school that is a bargain esp. with the right stats. Definitely cheaper OOS than our flagship in-state.

Yes, my son received the email yesterday. We are in state so the mail might have been faster getting here.

Just an FYI for anyone considering flying in for Scholar’s Day.
I was going to wait until scholarship letter arrived, but have been checking flights etc. over the past week to get an idea.
Checked a few hours ago and the Delta flights into Columbia are literally half the cost that they were yesterday. We were going to fly into Charlotte to save $ but these came up.
As I was checking times etc. I was losing avail. flights. Booked immediately -
Guess if the $ is not what we need it to be at least DS and I will have some quality time together in Columbia for a few days!

My daughter received the scholarship email yesterday, too. We live in NC, so that is probably why she got the letter so quickly.

Daughter received her McKissick scholarship letter yesterday (we’re in GA), but did not mention receiving the email.

My D received the Woodrow. Anyone know what grades and SAT were required for a McKissick?

CLT Gamecock

I have seen that and my daughter was slighty above 1250 and had a 4.0 weighted GPA
(3.4 unweighted). That is why I was interested in actuals. The difference in cost probably eliminates USC for us as it is not going to be competitive with the instate at most NC schools. I am a USC alum…so this is a real bummer.

There are no “official” minimum stats for these scholarships, just the basics in the link eadad gave.

I’ve been waiting for the scholarships.
So if I didn’t get an email, does this mean I have no chance of getting a scholarship?

I didnt get an email but got the letter today! McKissick! YAY! :)

D got her letter today. She got the Cooper! Yippee! This is the last piece she needed to start making decisions, but I don’t think there’s much to think about.

D got McKissick today! No email just the hard copy in the mail.
