when do we register for classes, and when do they start?

The UG announcement says classes start sept 9, but the online academic calendar says the 15th. Seems like the former would mess with OA/CA/etc, so is it safe to assume that the 15th is correct?

And as for SCORE registration, that's on the 6th, but again that interferes with the trips and leaves no time to discuss classes etc with advisors.

I am very mixed up. Can someone er un-mix me, please?

I think you might be seeing the previous year's UG announcement, this year, classes start on 15th aand the registration is after we meet our academic advisor after around 12th...
Hope that unmixes it :D

We don't register through SCORE for the first semester; we have to meet our advisors first and register with them. And classes start Sept 15.

you do register with SCORE first semester-- during orientation sometime you have to log onto score and click register to ensure that you're registered for the school year. Then, you'll meet with your advisor in the friend center (by college, last year wilson got screwed, I dont know if they do it alphabetically every year) after you meet with your advisor and get your score sheet signed, you go across the hall to computers where they have score all set up and you log on there and register for classes. They have ppl to help you figure it out (although its really simple)

don't go to your advising appointment without any ideas of what youre taking- while they like to talk about how many levels of advising they provide- i've never heard of anyone whose advisor actually really knew what was going on. They mostly ensure that you are taking enough, but not too many, classes, and that youre fulfilling atleast some distribution requirements. After first semester, you can go with no idea as you don't have to register yet, and you can just get their opinions. But first semester you should figure out what you want to take (and check on the course guide to see if the class is full or not--and check back every day while freshman are registering as classes fill) Also, while they say that you have to get your advisor to approve any changes, i haven't found that to be the case

Do you know when we find out when we're registering? I.e. who's first, when our appts are, etc.?

You meet with your advisor maybee sunday? in wilson,, we all went into the dining hall and they called out advisors and you had a lunch with your advisor and your advising group, to ask any questions and meet them. You get a slip in the mail during thebeginning of orientation week which will have the date and time of your actual appointment.

ah, tq everyone. That unmixes it (hehehe adides).

Does the slip come in our campus mail or home mail? (I know it's a silly question, but...)

If it's the beginning of orientation week, I'm guess campus mail?
I think I already got something that mentioned advisor meetings but no specific slot or name of the advisor yet

It's different for engineers and for ABs. Maybe Tunan or somebody can fill in the latter. For engineers, if it's like last year, you'll all go to the Friend Center for an orientation meeting on Monday the 12th, followed by dinner with your advisor group and interactors (peer advisors). The idea behind the Interactor program is that students have a more accurate view of the courses and what is a reasonable course schedule than some of the advisors, so ask your Interactors any questions you might have and for advice on anything you're concerned about. The next day, you'll meet with your advisor at his/her office during your scheduled appointment to choose/verify your courses... then you'll go over to the Friend Center with your Interactors and sign up for those courses using Score. There are some orientation events Wednesday I think, too -- faculty speaker, something about study abroad maybe? Check the orientation calendar, you'll see what I'm talking about.

The Academic Advising program is run on a college-by-college basis, so I can only speak for what Wilson does.

From what I recall, there's a clipboard noting everyone's academic advisor next to the College Office in Wilcox; I think you check here or find out while you're waiting in the Check-In Line @ Baker Rink. During frosh week, one of the afternoons we ate a catered lunch with our advisor group and talked about our different interests. They break it up by your academic interest, so that if you're interested in Physics, your advisor will probably be a Physics, Math, Comp Sci, or Engineering professor; if you're interested in English, an English/Comp Lit. professor, and so on. It's not really a big deal, though. THe only significant activities you do with the advisor are course sign-ups for Fall & Spring, and a mid-semester check-in where you go to their office & chat about how classes + life are going.
