susanr64, I am assuming some types of merit aid don’t stack and some do. There are a couple of smaller awards such as the covenant award or the holly compton scholarship, which pay less than 3000 per year (less than 10% of tuition cost). I’ll be surprised if these smaller awards are not cumulative. I can understand why the Dean’s award may not be cumulative with the College Scholar Award.

The web site doesn’t say which ones stack and which don’t. I wonder if they deliberately left it that way so they can change policy each year as necessary. I’m sure the big picture goal of the merit awards is to maximize acceptances and that calculus may change each year depending on several factors.

susanr64, I’m not speaking as someone with any special insight, but I don’t think you should should be so easily resigned that something more could not be done. After the dust settles a bit it might at least be worth a phone call.

Got the big envelope and it was good news! Daughter is in with 19.5k Dean’s Award! Still waiting to hear about the College Scholar Award. Did anyone else apply for that?

Congratulations to all that got their acceptances from Wooster! For those waiting on the College Scholar award, if it is anything like prior years you should know by mid/late February with the College Scholar Weekend being in early April - GOOD LUCK to all hoping for that!

seconding what FLVADAD said about financial aid. also, if you and D really believe this is her first choice school, then definitely contact Nancy and let her know. i would also contact financial aid once the dust has settled more. we always need great bagpipers! (and drummers too!). has she applied for a performance scholarship?

LA Miller, D is not the bagpiper (darnit), her brother, a year younger is, and he is interested in Wooster too. That is part of the concern, having two kids in college a year apart at the same time if it is going to be too expensive, and I know he is not nearly the student his sister is so is not likely to earn merit. I’m going to wait awhile to hear from other colleges and then contact FA. Thanks for your advice.

Susan, thank you and congratulations to you too. It may still work out for you. I don’t know if this school will work out for us either. LOL, we were convinced that he was rejected for whatever reason, because the portal still does not show him as accepted.

Congrats to all accepted. Is it the weather that has slowed down the mail in New England? We are pretty northerly and the portal still shows S as not accepted. Sigh. My nephew visited COW this week and was quite impressed.

merlin, our son’s status online still shows his application as under review. I would think that there will be big envelope waiting for your son tomorrow. I guess my son was not the last kid not to hear!

Merlin, I haven’t heard yet, and I know of a couple of other people who haven’t from my area. It sounds as if some counselors would rather do it by mail first and make sure everyone knows before posting it online. I believe everyone is supposed to know by Saturday.

I appreciate hearing that others also haven’t heard. I can imagine that the ad com staff must feel like the vultures are circling. lol This is such a funny stage of parenting as we get ready to launch our kids. I know I will miss my S when he is gone. On the other hand, I have encouraged him to find the best college match, even if it is far away. Got to love a paradox!
