When do you guys start visitng colleges?

I've only been to three colleges so far in my entire life and I'm a rising junior. I'm heading up to Mass on saturday to visit some cousins in Cambridge and I was wondering if I should go see some schools there. Would it be weird for someone like me to go up there and visit? I'm assuming that most people there are rising seniors so it might be awkward...

i dont see how that would be weird. junior year is the perfect time to start visiting. you're farther than me anyway; i havent visited any yet ;-)

I did some very casual college visits - like just run around the campus on my own with some friends, see the surrounding area, just get a feel for it kind of thing - during sophomore year and the beginning of JR year. This summer I'm hitting them up pretty hard since I'm a rising senior.

Not weird at all. Without knowing what you're considering in terms of size or selectivity, I'd point out that (in addition to Harvard, obviously) Tufts, BU, BC and Northeastern are very close. Tufts is rather large for a LAC and the others are all larger -- if you're looking for something smaller, let me know from which way you're headed and I could suggest a couple (I live in MA, work in CT, and grew up in RI...).

What Ford1998 said. And don't forget MIT, if you're into that!

I hadn't done any official visits until this summer, the summer before my senior year (actually, I just did my first today! :)), although I'd seen some campuses for summer programs and other such things... and of course just walked around the Massachusetts schools, which is fun. (:

I went to the Outstanding High School Scholars Program for University of Florida and I visited Georgia Tech as well as several other schools in the Southeast area.

I've already visited MIT, West Point, Harvard, and Yale before freshman year. Remember that a big consideration for college is whether or not you're willing to freeze your ass off for four years.

Exactly why I'm sticking to the south. Getting hot and sweaty is a lot sexier than being bundled up and miserable ;]
