i was accepted to UW and I'm about to send my enrollment check for the college. i'm just wondering when do we start selecting our courses? i've going after international studies and its requirement is pretty high. (i think). so i better plan out early what i should take so i would fulfill my credit to get in. so when do we start? and shouldn't assisstant be provided so we don't choose the wrong class?

You'll sign up for classes in September. The catalogue is online -- I'm not sure they even publish a hard copy of it anymore! Be warned: freshmen have the lowest priority, which means you'll have the last sign-up date. So plan your second, third, and fourth choice classes as carefully as you can -- you may just end up taking things you'll need to fulfill distribution requirements rather than things you need for your major.

Once you attain sophomore status, you'll be moved up one level of priority, and getting the classes you want is easier. Not a necessarily a slam-dunk, but easier. My son came in with enough AP credits that he has soph. status this quarter (3rd Q of freshman year) and did much better in getting classes he wanted.

can you start selecting classes maybe during late sumer like juli or august, or is it only in september when school actually starts ? and who or how do you select them ? is there anybody to help you ?

Yea...is there anybody out there to help us out..
I am an international and pretty new to the American System of education.

We have counsellors here to help students in every possible way.
I hope there is some help there.

oh right on, i came from switzerland this year to graduate here, so im semi new too... im sure there are counselors, like every other collge has too, but they tend to be in high demand during these times, so i dont know if well get a chance on seeing them

some1 tellme, how tough is it to get in cs program of UW if an international got admitted with major declared as "Pre major"

When I started my freshmen year at U Dub, we could only start signing up for classes ON OUR ORIENTATION DATE. By that time, alot of the classes have been filled. Not all of them, just alot of pre-requisites. I do not know how they are doing it now but your class status determines your priority. When you sign up for class Winter Quarter, be prepared to get up by 6AM on your 1st day of registration. If you do not, certain high demand courses will have filled up by noon that day. I guarantee you...I've had it happen to me. Just keep hitting that refresh button.....registration is really a pain sometimes when every other person is flooding the UW servers with course registration.

o man, that sucks. we register that late? plus, i want a hard copy of the course catalog. its a pain to look up classes on the computer. i want to have something hard on my hands that can read and look up whenever i want!

From my understanding, we all register for classes during our A & O sessions. So thats why its good to go to an early session.

Here's a little suggestion when registering for courses in the subsequent quarters:

Instead of using scheduler finder to find classes that fit your schedule, do it ahead of time. Write down the 4-digit number for that particular section. Then, on registration date, just enter it in and you will be registered for your classes. Trying to use schedule finder on registration date is not a good idea because everyone else is trying to use it to sign up for classes.....jams up the servers. You will be annoyed after hitting the refresh button for like 15 minutes non-stop.
