I am applying to UCB and UCLA this Fall as a Phil major. I am taking an excessive amount of units due to next summer being an option. For my IGETC, do I need to have them all done in Fall, submitted with my grades? Or could I push English 1B until spring. I ask because it seems like people would just push their difficult classes to spring to avoid messing up transfer GPA.
IGETC can be finished by the end of your spring semester prior to transferring (ie: your last semester at community college).
Do your question about your second college writing class, I would just get it out of the way. Admissions likes to see early completion of that along with mathematics.
People who push their hardest classes to Spring face a serious risk of getting a low GPA that jeopardizes their admission contract. A STEM major I know got a 3.1 his last semester before he transferred to Cal because he was enrolled in many difficult classes.
Thank you so much. Okay, well then I’m in a predicament. I can either complete my English requirement or my science lab requirement in fall. Math has to wait until spring because of a prerequisite. Which should I get out of the way?
I would personally get the English class out of the way and then take the science lab in the spring. I’ll be honest though, it’s pretty arbitrary the order you take it in, you won’t be rejected because you haven’t taken such and such in a specific order. However, this can happen if you TAG a school and it has specific requirements about when particular classes need to be taken by (usually English needs to be done by the end of fall to TAG).
