I was there last week and one of the admissions directors said they would start sending the letters out next week. She didnt specify when next week though.

That is a lot earlier than most people are expecting.

is it possible that these emails and phone calls may be based on major and school that you applied to?

hm... next week.. well makes sense though, since some people said they will notify between march 15th to april 15th, so they 'start' sending out next week sounds reasonable

Are all the decisions sent out together or is it as they finish your application?

well.. i doubt they can send 15,000 letters altogether.. they probably send them over a few weeks..

Plenty of schools send 15,000+ decisions out all at once. I don't see why Carnegie Mellon can't do it. And I asked my friend's sister about it again, and she told me we're supposedly getting decisions March 18, not 28. AHHH!

sarah, that is consistent with what DonKedar said so that may be right.

CMU releases its decisions in batches starting from next week till mid-April.

"There are "likely" phone calls"

Any info on these? I got a call from a student in the architecture school and talked to him for like 20 minutes... that mean anything?

I called today and the lady said they'll start sending them out March 22nd until they are all sent out.

"Any info on these? I got a call from a student in the architecture school and talked to him for like 20 minutes... that mean anything?"

No. Usually they do this to URMs. They call you and say something like "I've been reviewing your file and things are looking good for you. Did you have a chance to come visit? etc. etc etc. ". Then they invite you to some URM thingy and ask you about your interests, etc.

Yes, I they will start sending out admission notices on April 22. My only question is that with a $75 application fee, and 18,000 applications, why didn't CMU hire more admission people to expedite the process?

I'm pretty sure they will send out decisions BEFORE April 22. (I would guess March 18th-24th).

Cornell, one of our closest peers, is sending their decisions out March 30th. Quote "28,000 applications for 3,000 freshman spots were received this year - will be mailed "fat envelopes" on March 30"

Note: We have 18,000+ apps for 1300-1400 spots.

Cornell has to abide by the common ivy group agreement which means they CAN'T send out decisions before march 30th

The point is that other colleges have it worse.

Thanks for clearing that up acceptedtocollegealready, i figured that it wasn't anything, but hey.. i might as well ask

Does CMU tell you when they send out the decision letters on the "Where Am I in the process" under Documnets sent section?

It shows up online usually 3 days after they send out the letter.

Does anyone know the answer to stoneterrain's question? I would really like to know the answer to this as well.

as lildude ravi stated, the decision will show up on the website usually a few days after your actual letter is sent out via mail.
