I applied to Princeton University via Regular Decision along with a fellow classmate. Said classmate claims to have gotten a response from Princeton already and accepted the offer. Does Princeton ever release decisions before March 31st?
It is possible if they received a likely as an athlete or something like that. If they are not an athlete and purely academic, one can not accept a likely until an official letter is issued.
Ivy day is supposed to be March 31st.
The person’s not an athlete; just a regular decision applicant.
In the unlikely possibility that Princeton has issued an academic LL for RD applicants, it is still not possible to accept a likely admission, since it is not official yet. A likely is a letter stating that you will get an admission unless they find something wrong about your app or you.
@texaspg is correct. My son was an RD applicant who received a likely letter and didn’t receive his formal acceptance until all RD decisions were released.
@sherpa - I take it Princeton issued a likely to your son for an RD round? I was under the impression they don’t do it simply because I have not seen anyone discuss them before.
What time frame do they come out?
The person stated they just accepted the offer- no mention of a letter.
I’m going with the assumption they’re lying about acceptance but thanks for the information on likely letters.
@KatG There is no process for someone to receive an offer between SCEA/REA and RD outside of a likely letter in the case of Princeton.
@texaspg - He was a recruited athlete and applied RD back when Princeton didn’t have an early process. He received his LL in October but, as you pointed out, he wasn’t able to accept the offer until it was formalized with the rest of the RD decisions.
@KatG - I too would assume they’re lying unless they actually applied and were accepted in the early round.
@sherpa - sounds like it was 2011 or earlier?
Do you know if Princeton issues likelies between SCEA and RD decisions at the present time?
@texaspg - Yes, 2009.
As for post-SCEA LL’s, I don’t have firsthand knowledge but I’m fairly sure they must. Imagine the case of a top recruit, courted by all of HYPS, but who waited until after the early round to make a final commitment. Assuming good grades and scores, I’m sure such an applicant would be offered LL’s by any of the Ivies.
