I'm sorry :(.

it's okay...I always have McGill and Grinnell to chose from, but congrats on getting in!! :)

TheOneCurlyFry: I thought you would make it. Congratulations ! ;)

Thanks. I can't attend, though - they haven't given me enough financial aid, and they say they meet 100% of need. I'm angry :(.

I was rejected from Colgate - I’m not too disappointed - I am still waiting for Johns Hopkins. On a lighter note, Colgate’s rejection letter is extremely heart-warming; equipped with a personal note from the Dean of Admissions. It kept me from committing suicide. ;)

I just heard a rumor that Colgate mailed decisions to applicants from NY State a day or two late. Everyone else’s decisions were mailed on on Wednesday. Has anyone heard that?

We live in NYC (Manhattan) and have nothing, even today.

@MichaelAG: Sorry. Where do you live?

7Sisters, I live in Upstate New York about two hours away from Colgate and still haven’t heard anything. If what you heard is true we’ll probably be hearing tomorrow?

I wrote a note to the admissions rep who maintains Colgate’s FB page (“Colgate University” on FB), and asked her that question. She said absolutely not–that ALL letters were mailed 1st Class US Mail on Wednesday morning. Their admissions blog shows them delivering the boxes of envelopes to the post office at 6 in the morning. So this makes little sense. Someone on CC said that she lives 1 1/2 hours away from Colgate and she recieved it I think Thursday or Friday. Big envelope–admit.

One person from NYC says she received her letter on Friday.

That’s weird. I guess that means we’ll be hearing tomorrow or Wednesday, then.

I’m not very hopeful. On Friday I was rejected from Vassar and waitlisted at Hamilton. I’m expecting something similar from Colgate, but I really just want to know for sure.

@laprimeraa: I know. This is awful. And I’m the mom–not the applicant!! But I don’t understand this mail system. And why couldn’t they just post it on the portal?

My son says that one of his friends from Manhattan received her admit letter on Friday.

A student of mine received an early admission letter a few weeks ago. My own daughter received her bulging admission “package” around April 1st two years ago. Take a deep breath and try to relax. And keep checking the mailbox since that’s where you will find out. Around April 1st you should know . . . give or take a few days. Remember, the U.S. mail can take a few days to get you the letter – up to four or five across country.

I’m not sure why Colgate doesn’t post admits/rejections online, but I imagine it has to do with wanting to be more personal about important news. When my daughter got her admits/rejections/wait list answers, some schools were very cold about it (online or in unfriendly form letters no human hand had touched). That can be very devastating to a young person. Colgate’s admit letter was friendly and filled with enthusiasm – and a few personal notes from admissions people. She was totally thrilled! That’s probably why they mail their admission letters. And you couldn’t very well mail only the admission letters without the others! Imagine posting only the “rejects”. That would be particularly nasty.

Still nothing. The mailman came by with today’s mail already. I don’t understand why ANY letter–accept or deny–isn’t here yet. We live in NYC, and Colgate mailed it last Wednesday morning. Ugh!

same here 7sisters, I have yet to hear too. I live in Ohio, only about 7 hours away so I cant figure out why it’s taking this long!

I live about four hours from Colgate and have still heard nothing…

I wonder if there is an issue. My son hasn’t heard anything as well. Granted we live in the Rockies, but doesn’t make sense if NY folks haven’t even heard.

Patience. Remember that “around” April 1st is the normal admission notification date for most colleges. For all you know, they may be mailing them in bunches over a few day period. My daughter’s admission package two years ago came, I think, by Fedex that year. So, it may not ever be a Postal Service issue. And as for the Postal Service, taking a week to deliver a letter is hardly unusual. My daughter’s own “around April 1st” admissions notifications from about eight colleges came from a few days before April 1 to up to a week after that date. Who knows why?

We’re from NY and got accepted Friday.
