Hey I was just wondering if anyone else recieved a letter from Colgate? It reads like this.

Dear, Name

We greatly appreciate the time you spent on your Colgate application, Name, and are excited to see the potential of the Class of 2014. Every year at this time I enjoy taking a break from application review to write to all Colgate applicant and share some recent highlights from campus. I hope this letter finds you well.

We know that this time of waiting can be filled with excitement but also questions about where you will spend the next four years. In the interest of helping you learn more about our community, I want to share some updates from campus.

Goes on to list 10 events that have happened or will happen on Colgate campus.

We are as excited to read about your accomplishments as wer are to share ours, so I thank you again for communicating with us your many interests and aspirations.

Sincerely,
Gary L. Ross
Vice President and Dean of Admissions

I was wondering why they would send this out to everyone. If they didn;t send it out to everyone what does it mean? I know it's not a likely letter but it seems pointless for them to send this to me then reject me right?

When I first saw the envelope in the mail, I thought it was a likely letter, lol. Oh well.

It seems like a letter they would send out to everyone. I think they just want to publicize great events that are occurring at Colgate so applicants get excited and want to attend.

Yea I see what you are saying evilspartan92 but most of the events have already occurred. I just baffles me why they would waste money to send out letters like these to everyone. I was hoping it was a pseudo likely letter. Almost saying we will most likely accept you but we don’t want to tell you directly.

“I was hoping it was a pseudo likely letter.”

That makes two of us. I guess the only way to find out is to see if any Colgate applicants DID NOT receive one of these letters. If that is the case, then there may be more weight to these letters than we thought.

I guess we were just trying to be optomistic. It’s just annoying that they send out this letter to Colgate reminding us of how great this school is and then they can reject you. Seems kinda cruel to me.

very common for schools to do this; two years ago, my daughter got this type of letter from at least two other schools…sounded remarkably similar actually…

Did you guys get a fake personalized message on the bottom of your Colgate letter that said “Very best wishes to you from all of us at Colgate”?

I love how Colgate is trying to make it look like the Dean of Admission is writing a personal note to you, but I think it’s pretty obvious that it was scanned and copied on a computer.

HAHAHA, yea i got that too. Why even put that there when everyone knows it’s fake. I really hope this wasn’t sent out to all applicants because that’s such a bummer. If this was sent out to everyone they might as well have just sent out an email and saved money.

Ignore any letter from Colgate until after March 20th. That’s when they actually send decision letters unless you’re likely to be nominated for Alumni Memorial Scholar.

I remember one of the reasons i liked Colgate was because they personally signed one of the letters they sent me. The person who signed it was likely my regional reader though.
It was funny to see them fake the note at the bottom of this letter.

I’m getting anxious waiting for a reply! One more month!

I got the fake-signatured letter and some other ‘personalized’ things some days ago. Kind of a bummer cause at first I thought they were decision letters. Ah well.
