you want your major to be in college, and what you want your future career to be?

Was it an easy choice, or do you still not know?
It seems like a lot of people at school already know what they want to do, and my brother did also. I'm not really getting pressure from anyone about it, but I just would rather know what I want to spend my life doing sooner rather than later.

Lately I've been thinking about majoring in social work, but I don't know much about it. (I'm in 10th grade, by the way.)

Oh, and if you do know what you want to major in/have your career be, were your parents accepting of it, and how did you tell them? (This whole thread probably seems really stupid, but whatever.)

My mom wanted me to be a doctor or a lawyer. Then I convinced her of how much I hate science and how demanding being a lawyer would be. Then she changed her mind and said, “Nah, I don’t really expect you to be a lawyer. You should be an international diplomat. Or just work for the UN.”

I’m kind of leaning towards advertising and marketing now, but my mom said no because going through business school is soooo demanding. As if being a diplomat isn’t.

When I was really young I wanted to be a marine biologist, because I loved the ocean. Then I wanted to be a graphic designer, and then finally I decided on being a chemical/materials engineer. I realized this because one day, I realized how I always wonder why something acts the way it does and how that works, and I loved science, especially chemistry. So I put two and two together. I would suggest what makes you perk up, what you love talking about and are good at. That may help you figure out what you like.

I want to major in biology or classics. if i major in classics my parents might get angry. they really want me to major in science. biology was pretty much determined because i want to be a podiatrist or optometrist…classics is a choice cuz im good at latin, and i like the romans…

It’s easy, to me, to choose a major if you know what you enjoy studying and partaking in. I like creative arts, i.e., cinema, writing, etc. Decide what you like, then decide how you can parlay that degree into a successful career doing something you enjoy.

I discovered biomedical engineering about 4 years back, and I have loved it ever since! I also would like to go to law school for intelelctual property law (just decided this in past year). I’m a rising junior BTW.

I want to major in French because I love it. The thought of being able to communicate in another language just excites me. I will probably also major in history. Even though I’m not as passionate about history, it’s interesting and I’m good at it.

I think I want to be a teacher, so there you go.

hey i’ve been thinking about social work too…i talk to troubled people on the internet as a hobby and try to keep them from killing themselves, so i figure helping people all day would come naturally to me

but i’m also very good at math (and it’s fun), so it would kind of seem like a waste. i figured i was going to be a math major when i went to a summer camp and it was awesome.

I want to major in Philosophy. It’s all about the critical thinking skills, writing, and ability to think through a problem logically and rationally and find the best answer to the solution. Frankly, I don’t see where those skills won’t be applicable. I’m looking forward to using those skills + my people skills to land me a lucrative job.

I used to want to race cars…but yeah sometime around 10th grade I got really into biology and it’s one of my favorite subject this year so I figure i’d just major in that and hope for the best.

Before the science/medical thing I really wanted to go into music.

I haven’t decided. I know I want to do something in the sciences or maybe engineering but I don’t know yet. I don’t think you have to declare a major until your second year at most schools so it gives time to explore options
