When is an application considered submitted?

I tried to apply for the USC scholarship consideration. On December 1, I submitted the application, but the common app listed it as being turned in on December 2. I've heard that it's still considered on time because USC runs on pacific time instead of eastern time. Is this right? What worries me the most is that when I was on the payment section of the common app, I put down "I plan to apply for a fee waiver". Unfortunately, I thought that meant that they would consider waiving your application similarly to the UC and CSU schools. A few days later, I found out that you had to fill out separate paperwork. I panicked and sent in a payment by credit card right away. By that time it was around December 3.

My question is, is the application considered submitted when you send in the app and supplement, or when USC receives the application fee? I would've done all this sooner, but I made the mistake of thinking that I wouldn't be able to afford the tuition. I don't think I'd be able to attend without a scholarship if I was accepted, seeing as my family's annual income is less than tuition and room and board. Hopefully I didn't ruin everything for myself.

Thanks in advance for the help!

I suggest you look up your Admissions Rep on the website and send an e-mail making sure your app was submitted on time. Good luck!

zekey–call and find out.

But don’t worry too much. The Dec 1 deadline is for merit awards, true. But if your family has low income, it is likely you may qualify for Financial Aid (that’s not merit–it’s based on your family’s income) and USC can be generous. The deadline for applications for FinAid is not the early Dec 1st. Just make sure your family fills out all the FA forms and submits them… early!

Best of luck.

ok thanks for the advice guys :)
