When is freshman orientation usually?

I just had an interview for a job that I applied for for the summer. It's at a summer camp so they prefer that I work both sessions, and the second session ends August 20th. I know that there's usually a freshman orientation in most colleges, and I'm trying to figure out whether getting home on August 20th will give me enough time to get ready for colllege as well as whether or not that's around the time that freshman orientation often begins.

These are the colleges I've applied to (haven't heard back from all of them yet)

University of Maryland COllege Park
Goucher College
Salisbury
Towson
UMBC

I don’t go to any of the colleges listed, but my orientation was a two-day thing. Left Thursday, stayed the night, and came home Friday. It was also in May, the LAST session available was in June. Though I do know some schools just go in a week earlier for orientation. The best bet is to check each school’s website, since dates and methods vary.

Orientation schedules may already be posted, or you can probably find 2011’s dates to get an idea. Most schools have multiple dates to accomodate people on different summer schedules.

In my experience, small colleges most frequently have one big orientation program immediately before the beginning of classes. Larger universities might have multiple orientation sessions during the summer.

In 2010 (I used the internet archive), UMD had 18 two-day orientation sessions between June and August. Some of them were for particular subsets of students (honors students, athletes, engineers, etc) while others were open to all students

Goucher had two one-day orientation events (with placement exams) in June, followed by another orientation program right before classes in August.

My US college has several days just before the start of the semester for orientation.

My UK university started class the day after move-in, but it was still a untaxing (hectic) first week.

Usually closer to the summer. Look on the schools’ websites for last year’s orientation dates to get an idea.

I know my school has shorter orientation sessions the two days immediately before classes begin, so you might be able to manage it.

My school does orientation in June over 4 different 2-day slots.
