When is Jackie Robinson gonna give me some money?

buzzwick, I hope that you don't mind me asking; but what were your son's stats?

Those applying for UCLA's Jackie Robinson scholarship (an affiliation with the national one, who knows?) are required to interview, but for those just applying for the non-UCLA-affiliated one, notification is June 15th.

My son's gpa: 4.25; SAT-1350; SAT2's 680-690 for the three subject tests. He has lots of leadership EC's. Good luck, it is a wonderful scholarship opportunity!

hey, i just had my interview. how long was everyone elses? i thought mine was a little short...and am somewhat worried.

and how long did it take for you to receive notice from the foundation? i'm super nervous.

You just had your interview???? Weren't we supposed to already know by now? Seriously. I have been biting my nails anxiously for the pas couple of weeks. When will we know? Has anyone else found out?

goodmorning all,
ok i have my interview today, what to expect help a sista out. I really need this money but I would value the networking experience as well. What is the average time period between interview and notification. sorry to bombard ya'll (i'm from texas) with questions. just a little bit nervous.

My son had his interview on a Saturday, and was notified within 5 days! He was interviewed by a panel of 10, and some of the questions were hard for him to answer. For example, he was asked about aspects of the Iraq war. I suppose he answered it adequately because he was notified that he got the scholarship.

I agree with an earlier post that one of the most positive aspects of the Jackie Robinson Scholarship is the networking oppotunities.

thanks buzzwick. god does answer prayers. congratulations to your son,

I just had my interview. glad its over, they said I would know in 2 weeks

tashasjs05, how long was your interview? was it with people from the university of minnesota? i hope we both get it!

well it started late so really I dont have a very good perception of how long it took. It was probably a little bit less than 20 minutes. And to answer your question about U. of Minnesota, no they were in Atlanta (it was a satellite interview). I believe they were at Spelman.

Sorry for sounding really stupid... but..

are Korean students considered minorities that can apply for this scholarship?

I think that a prospective applicant must simply be a "minority" who is a US citizen. Check out the website or give them a call. The website is www.jackierobinson.org

A student of Asian descent was one of the recipients of the Jackie Robinson Scholarship Award in early June in Los Angeles. The scholarship is open to all minorities. You should definitely apply.

i think there are two different scholarships being talked about right now, because the national Jackie Robinson scholarship is not out yet. They have not decided it yet. However, i think the one that is given out in LA is different.

Other than regional, national, UCLA distinctions, are there any differences in the Jackie Robinson Scholarship Award and opportunities? Since my son is not attending UCLA I was suprised when we got the call from UCLA for him to interview. He is considered a regional scholar, not a UCLA scholar yet still a Jackie Robinson Scholar. I am still trying to understand this as it now sounds like there are national scholars!

i'm not really sure. how much was the scholarship your son received? i was unaware of a regional and national divide.

We do not know the amount yet. At the awards reception in early June we were told the recipients would be sent a packet with the exact amount of the scholarship in a couple of weeks.

ok. now I'm confused. Buzzwick, is your son a Jackie Robinson foundation scholar?

tashasjs05: Yes, my son is a 2005 Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholar. Are we talking about the same scholarship?
