So right now Dell is having a "Gifts For Grads" Sale. I was planning on waiting until the summer to buy a laptop for college, but should i just buy it now? Is Dell likely to have a 'back to school" sale later in the summer?

Also I am planning on buying the Dell XPS m1330. Does anyone have experience with this laptop? Would you recommend it?

April, July, October, January. Start looking in the second week of the month. The weaker the economy, the better the deals.

I have a Dell XPS M1330 as a backup for my 17 inch MacBook Pro. It’s nice for traveling. I find the screen a little small for serious work. If you get one of these, don’t order it with nVidia discrete graphics. They will put out a lot of heat and possibly require motherboard replacements. I’ve run into many with multiple motherboard replacements on this system with discrete graphics. I have the 2.0 Ghz Merom processor and find that startup and shutdown are slow. You can get faster processors but I think that the bottlenecks are Vista and the hard drive.

Keep an eye out for Dell Coupons. You can go into Google and type Dell Coupons XPS M1330 and it will return coupon websites.

I don’t own the XPS M1330, but I highly doubt that Vista is the bottleneck. I ran XP Pro SP2 before switching to Vista Business, and startup and shutdown are significantly faster under Vista than under XP. Maybe it’s just a case of YMMV.

I’ve read that Vista startup and shutdown time are much better with Business than with Home Premium - anecdotal. It doesn’t matter that much if you sleep it and then wake it instead of shutting it down and restarting it but I just prefer to shut it down and then restart it out of old habits.
