When may I change my major the first year?

I am going in UCR as a biology major this fall. Now I'm having second thoughts about it cuz I'm not a science person. I took AP Biology my senior year, and it was HARD and I failed every test. It was just an overwhelming amount of information to memorize! I don't even enjoy learning the subject so don't ask why I am majoring in it. However, I did enjoy learning regular Biology which is nothing compared to AP. It was interesting cuz it was an easy class. So yeah I don't know what I'm going to do. I am pretty sure I will end up changing my major. Except I don't know what I want to major in if it isn't Biology. I was thinking Psychology if I enjoy the class in college that is. So I was wondering when can I change my major? I mean I'll give Biology another try but if I don't want to major in that..I'll change it to something else.

after the first quarter

You can change your major at orientation really easily, by asking your counselor, or send in a form request during the first three weeks of school, which isn’t as easy

after that, you have to wait till the quarter is over

After the end of the first quarter, you can change or declare minors/second majors until the end of your second year.

how is it declaring a double major. i would like to double major in economics

You fill out the normal form for changing a major as well as the form for declaring a second major. You have to get it signed by academic advisers of each department. Then you turn both the forms into the dean’s office of your college.

I advise talking to both academic advisers before you declare a second major. Then can even point out classes that could overlap between the two majors so you’d have less units to take (although only 8 units of overlap are allowed for upper-division courses).

can I take psychology my first quarter?

Try to change your major as soon as possible. There might be some requirements to switch majors, for example going from biology to chemistry. If you were to switch later in the year, you won’t be able to unless you fulfill those requirements. For chemistry major, they are physics2c, math10a, chem1c, and some chem112. After these requirements, you will officially be a chemistry major. This is just an example though.

yes, you can take psych01 first quarter.

oh ok thanks…
do you know if I can take any science courses(such as Biology, Chem, etc.) if I got placed in math8A for my first quarter?

you can change your major, i did like in june and i am an incomin freshman and they let me. just go to your my.ucr.edu account and click on the my profile tab and it’ll have a link that says change major, click on that and itll tell you what to do. i used to major in women’s studies and now i am in sociology. :)
