When should I apply as a transfer to MIT?

I am currently a freshman in my first semester of college. I hope to be accepted as a transfer to either MIT, Stanford, or Cal-tech. For Stanford and Cal-tech, I believe I could apply any year as an undergrad transfer student, but MIT has a rule that transfer students must have no less than 1 year and no more than 2.5 years upon entry.

So, I am wondering if I should start applying to MIT during the second semester of my freshman year, or if I should wait until I am a sophomore.

Is there any advantage either way?

Doing the math, I think next year for fall semester ?? for MIT that is. So that you’ll have 2.5 years there

I did. I’m using this as a second chance.
