When should I apply?

Hi,
I'm a high school junior right now (graduating 2012)
I've been hearing mixed opinions about when I should apply to colleges.
I definitly want to go to ole miss, and I'm going to their junior preview day on April 2nd... I'm just not sure when to apply...
Can anybody help?

they all have different deadlines, go to the school website and you should find it under undergraduate admissions …
I am sure you can find it …

The Common Application for 2012 and most colleges’ proprietary applications will be ready online at the end of summer or the beginning of fall. Realistically, you can’t do your applications before then, but you probably can do some work on them. The 2011 applications are probably still available online. You can look at them, and start to plan and write your essays before colleges are actually accepting applications.

As for when to apply, I think there are two different answers. For colleges with rolling admission, apply as soon as possible. Even though these colleges will take applications well into the application season, they start giving away some of the spots in their entering class early, and people who confirm their enrollment early usually have a leg up for housing. For colleges with specified application deadlines (for early decision/action and regular decision), apply a couple of weeks before the deadline. If you apply too early, your application may not include awards, honors, etc., from your senior year. If you apply too close to the deadline, you risk being foiled by technical troubles right at the deadline (e.g., the power went out at my house, so I couldn’t get online; the college’s server was overwhelmed by the volume of applications just at the deadline, and I couldn’t get mine submitted).

Thankyou!! This helped a lot (:

You should begin working on your applications as soon as possible (or right when they open up for 2012).

It’s best to get your application in for any schools that have rolling admissions and/or rolling consideration for scholarships in as soon as possible - you’ll be more likely to get in, more likely to get both merit- and need-based aid, and generally in a better position with these schools.

For the other applications, you should get as much of the work done before school starts as possible, as having to do applications and school at the same time can be stressful. However, wait to submit them until it gets closer to the deadline, because - as mentioned above - you’ll want to include all your honors, awards, and new activities from your senior year on your resume/application.

Thanks
That helped too.
