I'm applying to Rutgers for next fall, and the priority application deadline is Jan. 15 2008. I'm not sending my transcript until the semester is over, but since they have rolling admissions there would it be a good idea to send in my application soon and my transcripts later? Or does it really not effect the admissions process

Yeah! I'm applying to Smith and Sarah Lawrence. I know that ultimatly it does not matter "how early" your application is in. But does anyone have a good rule of thumb for how early? Especially if your sending your application materials from across the country? two/three weeks?

I do think that you guys should submit your materials as early as possible. The school will know that you are really eager about being a member of it.

right well id only send in my application for now. if i sent in my transcript now too there really wouldn't be anything to show on it. so should i at least send in my application soon?

For rolling admissions, it's best to get your application in as early as you can. But I don't think your application is considered "in" until they have all the supporting materials required by the particular school (transcripts/recs/scores).

You could check with the school to see if they will review your app while still incomplete, but I haven't heard of any that do this.

If it is not a rolling admission school, all you really need to do is get it in by the deadline.

alright yeah i doubt they would review it without everything else, i cant get everything in until late december anyway, and it is rolling admission and the priority deadline is january 15, so i dont think it will matter as long as i get it in around late december

Andale is right. The application must be done by the date, but the materials (grades/recs/scores) should all be sent asap. Once the school has you complete then they make their decision.
