When should I take the French subject test?

When do you think I should take the French subject test? I've taken French for two years now and I will continue to take French for the rest of my high school career.

Should I take the test with the listening portion next fall 2007? Or wait until Spring 2008? (My Junior year)

Or, could I take the test w/listening my senior year in the fall, or is that too late? I'm thinking about applying Early Decision, too, so would that be too late to take?

The French SAT II is not particularly easy, especially if you are not a native speaker so I would recommend waiting as long as possible. If you have an excellent French program at your high school, however, it is another story and I would buy a prep book and see where your scores are on practice tests and adjust accordingly.

okay, thanks.

I recommend that you wait until spring 2008, although I think the listening tests are only offered once a year, in November.

The French SAT II isn't easy. Wait as long as you possibly can.

Any recommendations on books to use?

I'm taking it in May, any recommendations/suggestions on how to prepare for this?

Use Barron's. It covers all the material and has a lot of practice tests. It also seemed slightly more difficult than the actual SAT II, which I believe is a positive. A surprising amount of the test looks at idiomatic expressions and stuff like that, which you sort need to hear or read to get the hang of.

Ah, idiomatic expressions will be a killer. Thanks for the tip :)
