studying for the exam? My friend just asked me today if I wanted to self-study with him for Human Geography this year. My initial thought was yeah, but is it too late? I'm not really sure how long it takes to master the course, because I wouldn't want to take it unless I know I could get a 4/5.

So, when you guys self study, how much time do you usually give yourself? I'm a sophomore just for the record. And when would I need to go down to the guidance counselor to order it.

Your inexperience shows in your posts! For Human Geography, I’m sure people could do it in under a week. Most people prefer 1-2 months to self study an AP class, give or take. If you start now you will have a huge amount of time. Good luck.

Most counselors order exams near the end of January. Talk to yours and ask when you should come by.

I dont really agree with what is said above. The time you need to give yourself in order to study is dependent on how many other AP classes your taking or studying for. Im taking 8 AP exams this year, so my time is spread thin and I started studying now.

In my opinion, Id make a list of the classes/exams your taking this year and then decide from that how much time you want to give yourself to master the material.
(btw, HumanGeo is a super easy AP course)

Well thats good. So you can either give yourself plenty of time to study the material or you can plan out a work schedule that meets your specific time frame and go from there. I would get the Barrons flash cards now for HumanGeo and start pounding those. Those are really helpful.

Thanks for the tip, but I’m not sure what exactly if I’m taking that or psychology yet. Psychology sounds much more interesting, but I don’t know how hard it is. Easier or harder than Human Geo?

Well you can always take online AP classes. Virginia Virtual offers AP courses to in state and out of state students so long as the students school is willing to work together with the online program. [url=http://www.virtualvirginia.org/]Welcome to Virtual Virginia

Ive taken both and both are really interesting and actually play into each other. Both are about why people do what they do. Obviously psych is of a more fundamental base but human geo imo is just as interesting.

The thing about humangeo I find easier is you already know a ton of the vocabulary for that exam. But the exam for the Psych is basically ONLY vocabulary and you need to know just about all of them. There are soo many words to memorize for psych. If memorization is your thing then go with psych, but I find human geo more interesting because it has extreme relevance to today’s world.

You could easy start studying now for both of them and take the exams in May. I believe Human Geo is offered at Virginia Virtual as a semester course- so you could take that class and self study psych.

If your school doesn’t offer AP classes, and you venture out and find ways to take the classes you want to take, colleges take note of that.

Thanks for the help, I think i’m just going to self study psych this year just to get a feel for it. If I find it easy still in December or so I could always get try human geo.

lol if they say that you have a right to file a grievance or possibly a lawsuit. they can’t restrict you from putting anything on your transcript nor can they force you to put all the scores you’ve received.

“Well you can always take online AP classes. Virginia Virtual offers AP courses to in state and out of state students so long as the students school is willing to work together with the online program. Welcome to Virtual Virginia! (usually that’s not a problem)”

Yea and its super expensive. You forgot to mention that.

^^^??? no? thats only at really poor schools/poor school districts. They get a price reduction or complete waiver of the fee. Most people have to pay about $80

edit: are you talking about AP exams or the virginia online school?

The online school. And yes your high school pays for the online courses. The online school and the high school work together. Its sorta similar to dual enrollment.
