i am a little unsure of when i should apply to UM, partially because I am an OUT-OF-STATE student. should I wait and try to get my SATs a little higher but risk not being able to send the app in until november, or simply go with my one SAT score and apply ASAP when they have the most spots open? Or, should I wait to get my ACT results and submit my app in the begining of Oct? PLEASE HELP!!!

Whats your current SAT score?

But I know I can get it up to at least a 2000. My writing and cr scores are actually above the avg, just my math was bad (which was surprising since i usually do well in that area).

Improve the SAT , more than 2000 if possible or if you get a good ACT score , then apply with that.

thanks a lot!

If your GPA is 3.6+UW I would apply as early as possible. At worst you get deferred (outright rejections are pretty rare early in the rolling process) and then they can see your send your new scores for after you get deferred.

I have a 3.97 UW GPA. I also just got my AP scores back and got a 5 on AP US and a 4 on AP Lang and Comp. I have a 4.17 W GPA, and have been captain and president of various sports teams and clubs. I feel really good about my ECs. My real concern is applying from OOS. *If I apply in Sept. but then retake the SAT in Oct and improve a lot, can I submit the new score/will they consider it?

yea, if you get deferred they'll let you send in new information before you go through RD

sweet. do you think i have a good chance right now, with my currents scores, etc?

there's almost zero chance that you'll get rejected (almost max GPA, a LITTLE below avg SAT, OOS won't really hurt you) so you should apply early no matter what

at the very worst you'll get deferred (then you can send in your new SAT scores) and you'll get another chance at regular decision like everyone else that didn't apply early/got deferred

thanks, that made me feel lots better. I think I'm a great candidate with the exception of my SAT scores, but hopefully the GPA and ECs will overshadow that. Thanks for your help!
