I was wondering when would be a suitable time to call the admissions offices to check that they've received everything. I'm not sure doing it early january is such a good idea as the offices must be swamped and they prob haven't even filed anything, but then again i've never done this before. When is the best time to call and how do you go about doing it?

all admissions offices are closed right now for winter break, but if you go to the website it should tell you when they will be open. However, it takes time for them to get everything in the database, so I don't know. When did you submit?

yesterday and the day before.

From what I've read, you need to give them literally a couple of weeks right after this busy time for the files to get caught up in handling the barrage of submissions. By then, you may have an e-mail back from the school confirming receipt of your application and perhaps indicating an on-line way to check on the status of the other items. If you haven't heard something by, I'm just picking a date here, Jan. 20, call the Admissions office number on the website and have your Common App number or the application number that their system generated on hand to make it easier for them to look it up and make sure everything is there.

Most schools provide some way of checking online at this point. If you call, you need to wait at least 2 weeks for small schools and 3 or more for larger schools. The amount of mail coming in right now is staggering. A few of us were in our closed office this morning and we were opening mail from December 15th. We get multiple bins full of mail each day.

I usually post pictures of the bins on my blog...I have a few to add tomorrow. :)

Most schools have a way for you to check your app status online, or at least will let you know if something is missing from your application. I would suggest you seriously think about calling... admissions offices are probably crazy busy right now and may not appreciate the interruption.

Thank you all for your responses! That's exactly why I didn't want to call right away as I know admissions office must be crazy right now. I'll see if they have ways to check online and call the ones that don't in a couple weeks time.
