Hi, I submitted my application to the University of Minnesota on September 15th. They received everything on September 29th. When can I expect to hear a decision? I applied to the College of Education and Human Development. Has anyone received their decisions yet? I am really anxious.
What are your stats?
My stats are a little low but I have a 3.17 unweighted GPA and 23 Act score. My ELA is a 23. My act score fits the range of college of EHD. I go to a very competitive high school that is a blue ribbon school. Every class I have taken is honors and I have taken 2 dual-enrollment courses at my local community college. I am an Eagle Scout and have over 100 hours of community service. I also run cross country and track. I live in Tennessee. Minnesota has been my dream school for the past two years.
The 23 ACT fits the bottom part of the range for CEHD, as you point out. Given the absence of a high GPA to offset that, UMN is likely to be a reach for you. However, you still stand a chance to be accepted - the Eagle Scout (commendable!), honors coursework and dual enrollment will obviously help. Do you happen to have any hooks (URM, first generation, etc.)?
Acceptances have begun for the strongest applicants and they basically work through all the applications by end of January. Unless you have a special hook of some kind you are not likely to hear back till closer to January.
Do you have any backups just in case you don’t get into CEHD?
Thank you. I was worried that I would have to wait probably until January for a decision. Unfortunately, I am not first generation or a minority. I am taking the Act again this Saturday so hopefully I will do better. I forgot to add that I have taken 5 years of Math, 3 years of Spanish, and will have 5 years of Science by the time I graduate. Hopefully this will improve my chances. I think I probably have a good chance of being waitlisted.
Sorry I didn’t notice your last question. I applied to College of Liberal Arts too. My other backups are UT Knoxville, University of Kansas, University of New Mexico, and a couple of California schools.
@sdsupride your coursework will definitely help your chances. Being OOS should help as well. Good luck to you and keep us posted!
