When to give ThankYou card / Gift for Rec?

So when do I give the teacher a thank you card and/or a gift for writing me a letter of recommendation? As soon as he/she finishes? After applications are sent? After I get my acceptances/rejections?

I'm planning on giving mine sometime in the next couple of weeks (after ED stuff has been submitted, but before I know anything about results). I would feel weird giving it to them after I have an admissions decision (because if I get in I'll feel like it will seem like I'm just thanking them because I got in) and I wanted to wait until after all of the stuff was submitted (otherwise it feels like a bribe to me) to thank them for sending it.

Did they already write it for ED or EA? Then I like thanksgiving week. It's timely, it doesn't seem like a bribe b/c the holiday season is tied in & it's not too late. Otherwise closer to Christmas works too. Additionally, plan on letting them know where you ultimately decide to go with a note in the spring.

I would just do a card for anyone who took the time to compliment you on your achievements. It would be nice.

I think I'm gifting them for Christmas.
Since they already helped me with ED but will still have forms to turn in for the RD schools I'm applying to ^^"

I did it after I had the gifts and they had finished their recommendations. I don't see why you would want to do it at any other time.

i'm gonna give it to them before christmas break.

You give the handwritten thank-you note as soon as possible after the teacher writes the reccs. A gift is not necessary. A printed card is better than nothing, and sadly is more than what most students do.

After you figure out where you'll go to college, you also tell the teacher via a note or in person, saying "thank-you" again.

All of the above applies, too, for GCs.

Many teachers at my school actually say not to give them gifts, they much prefer handwritten notes and UPDATES on where you go (my English teacher especially stressed this, too many people don't update teachers).

I wasn't going to do anything until the spring, when I knew for sure,-- advice given by my mother and my counselor.

Idk. Anything is nice.
