I was taking Management 1B during Fall quarter, however for personal reasons I had to withdraw from the quarter and am currently going to retake all my classes during Winter. However, because I've basically missed a quarter, I'm planning on having summer school to make up for lost time. Currently, I'm planning on taking Econ 101 and one more class. Would you guys suggest taking 1B with Ravetch in the Winter or waiting till summer and taking it with Gardner? I'm currently a sophmore, so I'm hoping to get into Business Economics for Fall '10.

If your GPA is an issue (as in, you’re right on the border of the 3.3 primray score), take 1b in the summer, if not and you want to get through the major ASAP, then take it winter.

Thanks for the advice, yeah my GPA is kind of on the border. Do you think that taking Econ 101 and 1B with Gardner all in 6 weeks will be doable?

I really don’t know, I’m just a first-year, but from what I’ve heard, ravetch is a ***** and you definately want to also do well in 101 since its 3x weighted.

I’d ask yourself if taking 1b in summer will stall your accounting progression. If that’s the case, you should take it with Ravetch.

Ravetch tends to be the only teacher in 120B (most of the time), and if you plan to dodge both 1B and 120B, you might find yourself running out of time as Ravetch teaches both those classes religiously.

If you had to pick a class to dodge, dodge 120B. 1B is so much easier than 120B.

I’m not too worried about my accounting progression, it’ll only delay it by one quarter. I just don’t know if I can handle taking both Econ 101 and 1b during the same 6 week session, especially since 101 is worth so much for Biz Econ.

It’s not so much that it will stall your progression as there is massive luck of the draw. If you stall 1B, you might end up having to take 120A with Ravetch which you might try to dodge. If you take 1B, you can at least sit and perhaps wait a quarter to see if someone else teaches it.

I’d say 101 and 1B in the same 6 week session might be pushing it.

^Not sure if you can, but that would be preferable. I’d recommend Ravetch if you can take a slight GPA hit. Remember, the class is on a curve, so while the class is hard, there are still like 20-30% people who get A’s.

You don’t need to know 1a & 1B to do well in upper div mgmt. It certainly helps but not knowing 1A or 1B won’t set you on the path for a Cs. The only management classes that really need 1A and 1B are 120A and 120B. You can do fine in those classes, but honestly try to learn the 1A and 1B material. It’s only gonna help you in the long run.

Yeah I’ll probably stick with taking 1B in the winter. Sadly, taking it at a community college isn’t really an option. And I actually went six weeks into fall quarter before I withdrew, and did take one of Ravetch’s midterms, which I did do decently well on, so I’m hoping for a good grade. My biggest worry is my GPA is kind of borderline already for getting into Biz Econ/Accounting minor but hopefully I can pull it up.
